E.L.F is a brand that has been around for a long ol’ time. I actually remember being told about it at makeup school well over 12 years ago and more recently it’s become more readily available here in the UK and seems to be a really popular budget and cruelty-free makeup brand.
I actually can’t believe I’ve never tried E.L.F before now as I always hear great things and it’s been on my to-try and wish-lists for some time now. I was sent a few things to try from E.L.F plus a few pieces from their mainly-sold-out Jelly Pop Collection so here’s how I got on with the different bits with a few firm favourites really impressing me.
From the Jelly Pop Collection, I have 3 of the Juicy Pop Glosses in shades Cherry Pop, Apricot Pop & Watermelon Pop. These are super cute and ultra hydrating lip glosses containing coconut oil, avocado oil and hyaluronic to act like a lip balm and gloss hybrid. The squeezy tube and applicator remind me a bit of a mini Lancome Juicy Tube.
They look bright in the tube, but the gloss is really translucent so think clear with a hint of colour. Really pretty on their own or over the top of a lipliner.
I also have the Jelly Pop Flush Blushers which are super intriguing and I’ve never tried something quite like this. They are literally like jelly, they are cool to touch and apply best with a brush to really infuse and press them into your skin.
The texture is a mixture between a liquid and a cream blush ; so be wary of this when applying over heavy makeup /powder products as I did have a bit of a problem at first with these taking off my foundation and making it look a bit patchy. I love them for natural day looks over the top of a tinted moisturiser.
The Opposites Attract Eyeshadow palette is an absolute beauty and I really like the way it incorporates both cool and warm tones and metallics and matte finishes. It’s a really versatile palette and you can get SO many looks with it.
As normal with shadows, the metallics swatch a little better than the mattes but the overall quality is really impressive and a really affordable price at just £14 for these well-curated 18 shades.
Apologies that my swatch photo is terrible as it was dark and gloomy but I will try and update this with a better one. I’ve worn it quite a lot on my eyes over the last few weeks, particularly the warmer tones and they stay on well and I’ve had no problems applying or blending.
Now onto the base products and actually possibly the products that I am most impressed with ; the Prep & Blur Primer, the High Definition Powder and of course the 16hr Camo Concealer.
I’m not *hugely* into makeup primers believe it or not but 100% hand on heart, I am using the Prep & Blur Stick pretty much every day (or at least days I leave the house / wear makeup). I just love the quick and fuss-free application with no mess and the way it smooths my pores and gives me a nice demi-matte finish before foundation. Perfect for my oily/ open-pored skin, ESPECIALLY in the summer and more humid conditions. Colourless balm-stick for all skin tones.
The High Definition Powder is another product that is at the top of my makeup pile on my desk and am also using all the time. I have the ‘sheer’ (white) shade which is translucent, ultra fine and gives a really nice airbrush and smoothing finish on the skin over your makeup. I like the lightweight feel of this and I just brush a small amount down my t-zone and I’m good to go for the rest of the day. Less is more as you don’t want to pile this on and get flashback in photos.
I think my favourite product so far I have tried from E.L.F has to be their AMAZING 16hr Camo Concealer. This is such a good concealer and the best I think I have tried from the budget brands…and just £5!
The 16hr Camo Concealer is full coverage so a little goes a long way, you can dab it under the eyes (I use a teeny amount so it’s not too heavy) and it knocks out redness and blemishes easily. It comes in 20 shades which is great and I have a full, in-depth review & swatches coming on these separately as they deserve it!
Talk to me all things E.L.F! I’m still a newbie to it so would love more recommendations and must-have products. I hear the putty primer is really good and I’m also keen to try a foundation. Let me know your thoughts.
