Hair growth products, hair thinning treatments, LED red light therapy and scalp health has never been talked about more : The market is BOOMING with new products and we are all becoming a lot more aware of scalp health and helping our hair become the healthiest it can be. With that in mind, it has become a bit of a minefield in knowing what actually works, so today we are going to be discussing IT ALL and I will take you through some things that work for me and products that really are worth your money when it comes to hair growth.
The Best Hair Growth Products: What Actually Works?
If you’ve noticed more hair in your brush, thinning around your partings, or simply want to encourage healthier, fuller-looking hair then you’re not alone. Hair loss affects millions of people and can be caused by genetics, hormonal changes, stress, nutritional deficiencies, illness, or even everyday styling habits.
The good news? While there’s no miracle product that can transform your hair overnight, there are several categories of products backed by science that can support healthier hair growth. From targeted serums to LED light therapy, here’s what you need to know and what actually works. Tried and tested, over many years…by me!
My Hair Growth Journey.
I have always had fine hair, and noticed after having my first baby I got a lot of hair loss after – what we know as postpartum hair loss. After my second pregnancy, the exact same thing happened with little signs of it growing back afterwards – this combined with ageing, having fine hair anyway and perhaps a little dose of ‘stress’ thrown in for good measure – my hair got very thin, I noticed balding patches around my hairline and lots of shedding every time I washed my hair and brushed my hair. I started using the CurrentBody LED Hair Growth Helmet around 2 years ago, and this in combination with some hair products, has given me a real boost in hair growth and I have thicker hair than ever and my scalp is healthy – just look at my results below!
Let’s go through what I have used and the products that I believe truly work to give you hair growth.
Hair Growth Serums.
Hair growth serums are often the first product people reach for—and for good reason. They’re designed to be applied directly to the scalp, where they deliver active ingredients to support healthy hair follicles.
Key ingredients to look for in your hair growth serum include Minoxidil, Peptides, Caffeine, Rosemary oil, Niacinamide and Hyaluronic Acid. A lot of these are clinically proven to stimulate hair growth, strengthen hair follicles and help with scalp health.
My favourite ones I have tried over the years include the Vichy Dercos Anti-Hair Loss Serum, Nioxin Rescue Serum, Living Proof Scalp Care Density Serum and the Champo Pitta Growth Hair serum.
Hair growth serums tend to be best for early thinning, postpartum hair shedding, stress-related hair loss and maintaining scalp health. As with all treatments when it comes to hair loss – consistency is key with most serums requiring daily application and several months of use before visible improvements appear.

Scalp Treatments + Brushes.
Healthy hair starts with a healthy scalp. If your scalp is inflamed, oily, flaky, or congested, hair follicles may not perform at their best. Scalp treatments focus on improving the environment where hair grows.
Exfoliating Treatments : Products containing salicylic acid or gentle fruit acids help remove dead skin cells, excess oil, and product buildup that can block follicles. Scalp scrubs I love to use include the Christophe Robin Cleansing Purifying Scrub and also the Arkive Crown Scalp Scrub is fantastic.
Scalp Massage Oils : Regular scalp massage may increase circulation and improve scalp health. When combined with nourishing botanical oils, it can become an effective weekly treatment.
Scalp brushes : The rubbery, pronged-looking ones (!) are great for using alongside a scalp oil to massage the product in and stimulating the hair follicle and also ensuring dead skin cells are sloughed away.
No-snag hair bands : Again, these do not promote hair growth, they just help healthy hair stay on the scalp by not tugging or pulling the hair when you are styling it. These are gentle on the hair and often are made with soft and gentle fibres.

LED Hair Growth Helmets.
One of the biggest innovations in hair restoration is low-level laser therapy (LLLT), often delivered through LED helmets. These wearable devices use red light wavelengths to stimulate hair follicles and encourage them to remain in the active growth phase for longer. The best LED device on the market for hair growth is (in my opinion) the CurrentBody LED Hair Growth Helmet. I have been using this for around 2 years and have seen some truly fantastic results. Before using LED red light therapy on my hair and scalp, I was using the lotions and potions as discussed above, but it was only when I added the hair growth helmet into my routine that significant changes started to show with my hair growth : new hair growth, thicker hair, stronger hair and a healthy scalp! It is honestly a game changer when it comes to helping your hair grow.
The CurrentBody LED Hair Growth Helmet.
Using LED Red Light Therapy has been scientifically proven to improve your hair’s condition, stimulate hair growth, improve scalp health and the density and thickness of your hair.
The CurrentBody LED Hair Growth Helmet uses 2 wavelengths of red light : 660nm to stimulate the hair follicle & increasing hair growth and 620nm to improve the scalp health & condition to also support hair growth and hair health. These wavelengths of red light are clinically proven to energise hair follicles, reduce inflammation, lower DHT levels and improve scalp blood flow.
By using this device your hair follicles are triggered to stay in the ‘hair growth phase’ also known as the ‘anagen phase’, improving the condition of the scalp and growing healthier, thicker and stronger hair. Not only will you see hair growth improving but this kind of treatment will also ensure hair loss is reduced as you are growing better quality and stronger hair.
Red light boosts cellular regeneration and stimulates follicle strength. It also helps increase blood flow and stimulates cells in dormant hair follicles and reduces inflammation. When your scalp is more hydrated you will get less irritation, redness and flaking. Scalp health is absolutely vital to hair health and hair growth – which makes total sense, so start from the root and beyond to help your hair growth journey.

Hair Growth Shampoos.
While shampoo alone won’t regrow hair, it plays an important supporting role in maintaining scalp health and creating the ideal conditions for hair growth. A good shampoo should cleanse without stripping the scalp or causing irritation. This being said, you may want to avoid harsh sulphates in your hair growth shampoo as these can leave your scalp feeling stripped and irritated. You want a shampoo and conditioner that will support your scalp barrier and improve your scalp health.
Most ‘hair growth’ shampoos and conditioners will give a feel of thickness on the hair with instant gratification as opposed to long-term results. I have really been enjoying both the Redken Acidic Grow Full range and also the Champo Pitta range.
Tips on Building an Effective Hair Growth Routine :
The most successful hair growth routines combine multiple approaches rather than relying on a single product. Invest in a good serum, focus on scalp health and get the CurrentBody LED hair growth helmet treating the scalp every single day.
Daily :
Use your LED hair growth helmet for 10 minutes per day. This can be at any time you want and it is wire-free so you can just wear it around the house and carry on with chores if you wish. It’s super easy to fit into your daily routine.
2–3 Times Per Week :
- Wash with a scalp-friendly shampoo and conditioner
- detangle gently
- Apply scalp serum and massage into the hair
Weekly :
- Use an exfoliating scalp scrub
- Perform a longer scalp massage with a scalp oil and scalp brush

When it comes to hair growth, you want a multi-pronged approach and boosted by the powerhouse that is LED. There isn’t a single *miracle product* —but there are evidence-based products and devices that can make a real difference.
Hair growth serums can directly support the follicles, scalp treatments create a healthier environment for growth, LED helmets offer a clinically studied way to generate NEW and HEALTHIER hair growth, and a well-formulated shampoo helps maintain overall scalp health.
The key is patience and consistency. LED needs to be used daily and you will start to see the results from around 12 weeks. Most treatments require at least three to six months of regular use before more visible results. By combining effective products like this, you will give your hair the best possible chance to grow stronger, thicker, and healthier over time.
