Jo Malone Raspberry Ripple : A review and chat about the brand.

Jo Malone raspberry ripple review
Review of the Jo Malone Raspberry Ripple Cologne.

I am probably just as surprised as you when I say this is actually my FIRST ever Jo Malone fragrance I have ever owned. I love my fragrances and have a 100+ deep collection at the moment and people are always so surprised that none of it is Jo Malone…until now.

Why I have never purchased Jo Malone.

I’ve just never found a scent that I really liked. Maybe it was the hype around the fragrances that made me always left me feeling underwhelmed when I went into a store, to try and find ‘the one’ – which I never did. I found and still find most of the popular ones a little bland and perhaps a little over done. It also struck me as a brand that people just purchased because it was ‘Jo Malone’ and popular. Perhaps luxury fragrance for the kind of people who don’t know much about fragrance? Does that even make sense?

What made me dip my toe into Jo Malone fragrances after all these years? I guess curiosity got the better of me, I had a voucher to spend and I was very intrigued by the sound of a fragrance that sounded like a dessert – also the packaging was cute – true story.

ANYWAY, I purchased the Raspberry Ripple Cologne directly from Jo Malone online and the whole experience was very nice. It somehow has a luxury feel to it and I likes the fact it came in a sweet ‘gift-wrapped’ box with ribbon and I could choose a small sample to go with my purchase – I choose sea salt and sage – kinda hated it. The whole shopping experience however, was a 10/10.

Jo Malone Raspberry Ripple : a review.

Let’s get into it but excuse my lack of reference and comparisons to other Jo Malone scents as I have mentioned, I’ve never owned any before this scent.

When I first sprayed it I had an awful sinking feeling of regret, ‘I told you so’ and WTF have I spent £58 on this for. It smells SWEET, almost sickly sweet and yes that raspberry and berry top note hits you like a train. But how can I be angry about it, it’s what the fragrance has LITERALLY  told me it’s about?! We move on, swiftly and it actually dries down into the middle and bottoms noted pretty quickly. I can then smell warmth and a touch of comfort in the white musk. It’s no longer smelling like ice-cream , and it smells girly, sweet (but not sickly) and a little warm. It’s not heady or rich or typical masculine. It’s not particulary strong and seems to wear off relatively quickly – something I have heard quite common in Jo Malone fragrances.

The lasting power is not quite there for me, yet I am not disappointed entirely with my choice in choosing the Jo Malone Raspberry Ripple as my first JM scent. Why? Because I can categorically tell you I have NOTHING like this in my entire fragrance collection. Maybe there is a reason for that (lol) but it certainly is an eye-catching and different scent for me. It’s unusual, it’s flirty and yes, it’s FUN. Did I buy it partially for the pink and white stripes ribbon which makes it look oh so aesthetically pleasing? Perhaps. Do I have any regrets in spending £59 on my first taster of Jo Malone? Yes and no. Entirely my fault for choosing this when I’m not a fruity and sweet girl and this is what this scent is all about. I could have been safe and opted for one of the crowd-pleasers and the best-sellers, but that’s never been my style when it comes to fragrances and I like the slightly off-the-beaten path and more niche scents and this kind of slots there. I also know I could sell this on in a second if I wanted and this is partly why I purchased it knowing that this was always going to be the case.

Jo Malone Raspberry Ripple Dupe?

I haven’t tried these personally, but I have heard that the Marks & Spencer ‘Red Berries & Rose’ is a good version.

There we have it and I hope you enjoyed my journey into Jo Malone fragrances and this review of the Jo Malone Raspberry Ripple fragrance.

Will I purchase another Jo Malone fragrance when I am feeling slightly risqué? Probably. On that note (pun intended) I would absolutely LOVE your Jo Malone perfume recommendations. I don’t want to hear about pomegranate noir or – I want the more unusual, maybe slightly heady and sexy fragrances. Let me know!
