This has already had a little bit of hype in the beauty world : the NEW L’Oreal Paris True Match Tinted Serum Foundation. This launched just a couple of weeks ago and I was lucky enough to get my hands on some to try out. I wanted to give you my first impressions and mini review after wearing it for a week.

The Blurb:

The True Match Nude Plumping Tinted Serum used the power of 1% Pure Hyaluronic Acid, with a tint to get the perfect match of skincare and makeup. It is an innovative formula combines the benefits of a skincare serum with the radiance and coverage of a foundation.

With 9 super blend-able shades this sheer formula is able to easily blend on to a variety of skin tones, leaving skin with a naturally luminous finish for a flawless nude look.

Review of the L’Oreal True Match Plumping Tinted Serum:

Everything that I read about this foundation really appealed to me. I love a lightweight dewy base and am always on the hunt for more to use!

It comes in a glass bottle with a pippette-style dropper. You can immediately see the formula has glow particles in it as it looks slightly luminous. The pipette dispenser will be due to the super lightweight formulas of this foundation : which is really like a serum! It’s verrrry lightweight and almost watery. More-so than I expected.

The coverage is light-medium. I did try and build it up more but I think the most you can get is a medium coverage from this. If you want anymore, then grab out the concealer and use it in the areas you need a little more help in. The finish is dewy, glowy and it makes your skin look super healthy and radiant. I can see why people are raving about it. Due to the glossy-watery formula, I would definitely say this is suited to a normal-dry skin and for those days when you are having a good skin day.

I am oily and I need powder over this after a couple of hours, which I don’t mind, but I know a lot of oily-combination peeps will prefer a more satin-matte finish.

The pipette application is probably what I like least about this foundation. It’s just is quite messy to apply. When you pull the dropper out of the bottle, it’s covered with foundation not inside but all over the outside of the dropper so it’s hard to control and it can drip and just be messy. I am mainly pulling it out and then wiping the dropper across the back of my hand and then applying from the back of my hand.

Shade Selection of the L’Oreal True Match Plumping Tinted Serum:

There are only 9 shades which I was quite surprised by.. apparently each one is super adaptable and they will . As the formula *is* so sheer they will stretch across a few different skin tone shades but 9 does seem pretty minimal still?!

I am wearing shade 3-4 Light to Medium.

How to apply the L’Oreal True Match Tinted Serum Foundation:

On the website is says: ‘Shake the bottle well before using. Apply 2-3 drops on your palms. Spread lightly with your fingers, just as if you were using your daily serum, by smoothing a small amount onto clean skin’

I have been using a brush with this just because my skin is not great at the moment so I try to avoid as much hand to face direct contact as much as possible with makeup. I use a synthetic buffing foundation brush. It applied well but I’m sure fingertips is just as good.

You DO NEED TO SHAKE THIS. And here is why : I didn’t bother initially and I got a HUGE, almost overpowering whiff of alcohol. It is 4th up on the ingredients list and the foundation will settle with the alcohol coming to the top if you don’t shake it.

You can see my applying it right here on my latest Instagram Reel if you are interested!

Before + After:

As you can see from the before an after photos of the L’Oreal True Match Plumping Tinted Serum, the finish is really natural fresh and radiant. It’s definitely a second-skin finish and not a full coverage as you can still see my ‘skin’ through the base.

It lightly diffuses areas of redness and blemishes but you do need a little extra concealer in places. The shade 3-4 Light Medium is a pretty good match for me and is definitely more of a winter shade for my skin tone.

I really like the finish initially as I love a glowy and radiant look but as I am combination-oily I do need to touch up with powder after a couple of hours.

What is a dupe for the L’Oreal True Match Plumping Tinted Serum?

Hmmmm. I don’t think I have anything quite like this at the moment in my stash of bases. It is really quite unique in texture. The only thing remotely similar I can think of is a discontinued Maybelline one…Dream Wonder in that little oval bottle from maybe 2013-ish. I’d be interested to hear of any bases anyone else has tried that is similar to this.

How much is the L’Oreal True Match Plumping Tinted Serum?

It’s normal price is £13.99 but I’ve just seen it is currently £2 off in Boots right now so £11.99. I think this is really great price for a decent base. I’m really loving the high street foundaitons coming through at the moment, you can get some absolutely brilliant ones for under £15.

Summary:

  • VERY lightweight serum feel
  • hydrating with % hyaluronic acid
  • dewy finish
  • light to medium coverage
  • best for normal to dry skin

Negatives for me : the smell of the alcohol is quite strong. The pipette applicator is going to get quite messy!
