The newest base on the block from foundation connoisseurs Bobbi Brown is the Skin Long-Wear Weightless Foundation SPF15. If there’s one thing that Bobbi Brown are known for, and pretty much always have been…..is there wonderful base products : with a great selection of foundations for different skin types, coverages and they’ve always done a great range for all skin tones.
The Skin Long-Wear Foundation is blurbed as a 16-hour wearing, full coverage foundation with a soft matte finish that is both breathable and comfortable on the skin. Dreamy promises. These slightly heavier and more matte bases are really popular at the moment with lots of brands bringing out this kind of formula (possibly kick-started by Fenty?) and it’s nice to see more options of finishes coming out than the dewy, glowy formulas that have been popular for the last few years.
This foundation, because of the slightly matte finish, is aimed at those with a normal-oily skin, or if you are on the normal-dry side then make sure you slather on that hydrating primer. It comes in a fabulous 30 shades, mostly edging towards the yellow tones (very typical of Bobbi Brown FYI) and the lightweight liquid formula is paraben-free, non-acnegenic, vegan-friendly and gluten free.
My Thoughts.
I put it to the test for a few weeks to see how I got on with it. My skin : normal-oily and breakout with some scarring and pigmentation, so typically I do like a little bit of coverage but I tend to opt for a dewy finish, so I was interested to see how I would like the switch-up to a more matte base.
The coverage on me is really good, I don’t have bad breakouts at the moment but it easily covered my patches of uneven skin tone and pigmentation which you can see in the below before and after. I applied it with the Bobbi Brown Full Coverage Face Brush which is a really easy to work with ; a short-handled and firmly packed buffing-type brush. It’s nice and firm so it builds coverage quickly and it’s perfect for buffing and polishing the base into the skin. These are my favourite types of brushes for applying foundation.
The finish is matte for sure but not a powdery matte, you still get a touch of sheen (which I like) and it doesn’t make your skin look flat and corpse-like which I find the really heavy-matte foundation can do. As I said, I like a bit of glow on my skin and I DIDN’T even powder or set this foundation on some of the days and it still wore really well on me ; no patches, no clumping up or sinking into my enlarged pores and it still looked pretty decent at the end of a full day of wear. With my setting it and touching up a couple of times during the day, it 100% gave a full day wear of pretty much perfect skin. It claims for 16 hours but the most I wore it for would have been maybe 11-12 hours as I makeup-remove pretty much as I step in the front door, but I’m pretty sure it would be in pretty good shape for a further few hours.
Still prep your skin accordingly! Don’t think that you can just slap this on with no skin prep or powder and it will look perfect after 16 hours, it will need a little touch up in the day, which is fine and expected, even for a long wear foundation. I used the Bobbi Brown Vitamin-enriched Face Base as my primer on 5 days out of 7 which gave me a lovely finish and helped with a slightly less than matte-matte-finish
If you want to see my very first impressions, and after a day of wear….then click the You Tube video below to see how I selected the colour, application and coverage. I also do a couple of check-ins throughout the day to do some updates on how the foundation fared.
