These are always cropping in my makeup looks and mentions, but I am yet to dedicate a whole post to the NARS Velvet Matte Lip pencils and now is the time. These are some of the best, most longwearing lip colours I have ever used and if you are yet to try them out….then you really should. You need these gorgeous oversized pencils in your life ; the hype about these is founded.
These have been around for many, many years, and they are loved by makeup artists and consumers alike, due to their great colour range, easy application and great quality.
Not only are they super-pigmented and have some beautiful shades, but I find them so easy to apply and get a perfect lip. As they are a pencil-shape, you can achieve a lipline and your full lip colour from these and even if you are not great with getting a perfect red lip right…..I assure you, you can with these! The texture of these are matte but very silky and creamy when you apply them onto the lips, I think that’s why I have loved them longtime.
The first one I ever purchased was ‘Red Square’ maybe around 7 years ago, and since then my collection of the Velvet Matte lip pencils has become huge, and nearly full. (I think there are 2 shades I don’t have) I use them in my pro makeup kit, and I have a bunch that I use for myself personally.
Shades to Try:
Dragon Girl. The ultimate red & my absolute favourite of the pencils. It’s one of my most-worn reds and is just such a classic & beautiful shade. It’s a slight pinky-blue red and can come out different on everyone but I am yet to see anyone it doesn’t look good on.
Red Square. Coral red. This is a very orange-hued red tone that is really pretty in the summer. My first ever shade I purchased which started this obsession.
Never Say Never. The shade that anyone can wear. This is the most ‘safe’ out of the selection I have picked, a really nice pinky-berry tone that is a really popular shade.
Train Bleu. For the more daring. A bit of a cult colour and sells out A LOT. This is a really deep berry/purple tone that I will often wear mixed with Dragon Girl for a two tone-ombre lip or on it’s own if I’m feeling more daring. More of a autumn-winter shade, and I think looks great with just a simple liquid eyeliner and minimal eye makeup.
Bolero. A really nude pink coral which can almost look neon. A really muted lip on me and I live this paired with a heavy brown smokey eye. Try this before you buy because it won’t suit everyone!
These really live up to the hype and for £19 they are 100% worth the buck. Have you tried any of the shades yet?
