Metallic lip shades have been one of the hottest trends of the year ; possibly not *quite* knocking the matte lip trend off the top spot, but not far behind.
Off the back of this, our favourite brands are bringing out the lacquered metallics in endless shades and I’ll be honest, it took me a while to dip my toe in to this craze, but one of my favourite collections to come out celebrating this lip look is the Kevyn Aucoin Molten Lip Colour collection.
They have launched 6 shades & 2 iridescent topcoats ; there are highly lacquered & high impact metallic shades. But not your average shades ; Kevyn Aucoin have really pushed the experimental boat out with the shades – some are unusual, some are almost un-wearable BUT…..I like this. In particular, these shades are great for editiorial makeup, the more daring and those who aren’t afraid to push the boundaries.
I only have 2 of the 6 Molten lip colour shades and one topcoat, but I wanted to share with you the swatches, and my favourite layering combo : the Carbon (LOVE!) with a swipe of the topcoat ‘Cyber Opal’ (an iridescent pearly pink) over the top.
Carbon is hands down my favourite shade. In the tube it looks almost black but applies as a very deep berry with a slight tinge of blue. It’s very unusual and I don’t own anything quite like it. Remember Foxy Brown in her 90’s hey day?! This woulda been her shade. ”Gotta get you home with me tonight……….uh oh oh ohhhhhhhhhhhh” < I digress.
The Kevyn Aucoin Molten Metal lip colours are available at Space NK and cost £24. From what I hear, they aren’t limited edition either ; I’m hoping they will extend the line into a few more reds, pinks and berries which I think will appeal more to the mass market.
