Five February Makeup Favourites

Bobbi Brown pot rouge for lips and cheeks review laura lou makeupA quick nod to the makeup that has been at the front of my vanity table over the last month or so. Some new, some old and re-discovered : ALL quick, easy and simple to use.

Starting off with base/primer and I’ve been loving the Bareminerals Complexion Rescue Defense SPF30. This is something I have had a while, but not extensively used until a few weeks ago. It is an all round-protection powerhouse that I use over my skincare and under makeup as a skin prep/ primer. It protects the skin from sun damage with SPF30, from pollutants with sugar molecules AND from the more recently prevalent blue light (screens) with cacao extract. This cream also has a slight pearl tint so it gives the skin a gentle lit-from-within glow which is why I love it as a primer.

For that subtle glow : Benefit High Beam. One of the OG liquid highlighters. It was definitely around 16 years ago because that’s when I worked for Benefit and it was probably the first product, along with Benetint that I tried! It is a pretty silver-pink toned highlighter that gives the skin a lovely ethereal glow and can be worn over, under or in your foundation. I had forgotten about this for years if I’m honest and have recently favoured the more bling-tastic liquid highlighters but found love for it again at London Fashion Week and have started using it on myself again.

A new product and brand completely : The Art Deco All in One Eye Primer. I was sent this before Christmas and only just got round to opening it and trying out properly more recently. I knew straightaway it was going to work for me and now a replacement for my beloved Benefit ‘Stay Don’t Stray’ eye primer which I have been loyal to for around 3 years now.

The Art Deco eye primer has a lovely smoothing texture that reduces the sheen on my oily lids and the tint of the shade I have is a perfect match for me and it manages to both get rid of redness on my lids AND brighten them all at the same time. Smudge-proof, enhances the eyeshadow you wear over the top AND  it looks great just on it’s own so it’s a big YES from me.

Next up is the award winning Bobbi Brown Pot Rouge for Lips & Cheeks. This is a product I have had maybe a year now and I’ve been using it a lot over the last few months when time for makeup and pampering has depleted quite significantly. It’s super quick and easy to use and this shade ‘Pale Pink’ is a lovely fresh pink that I love as much on my cheeks as my lips.

The texture is creamy and sheeny so gives the skin an enlivened look once dabbed onto the cheeks = perky skin in a few taps and blends. Am 100% going to be investing in some punchier coral shades for the summer.

Finishing up my February makeup favourites with a bit of a love or hate product..

…The Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara. I first purchased it many years ago and I couldn’t get on with it for love ‘nor money. Then I used it again a few years later and seemed to get on with it a lot better and my lashes are seeming to like it a lot at the mo. I think it’s maybe a mascara that gets better after a couple of weeks after opening as that’s what I have found with this one. It also definitely doesn’t so well over the 6 month-after-opening so bear that in mind too. I always give my lashes a good curl with my Shu Uemura lashes pre-application and then a quick 2 coats of the BTSM gives me lovely thick and dramatic lashes.

So a few makeup bits that have been liking my face this month! Have you tried any of these products?  Maybe you aren’t a fan of the mascara? I would also be interested in knowing any new makeup finds or loves that you have at the moment?
