It’s that time of year when it becomes acceptable for glitter to be everywhere……shoes, jackets, dresses, eyes, lips, hair…everywhere. I love to wear glitter anyway, not just for the impending party season…and I fortunately have an array of sparkling pigments for all occasions but GOLD is the one I seem to reach for the most.
Gold is a colour that works on all skin tones so it too can be your best friend for the party season. Whether it’s your work Christmas party, nights out with friends, Christmas day lunch or just because you want to shimmer a bit more day-to-day then take a look at this easy makeup look with some of my top tips for applying and wearing glitter below.
Getting the most from your G L I T T E R
1.) ALWAYS do your eye makeup first. You are going to be getting glitter all down your face so leave the foundation etc til after you’ve cleaned up this aforementioned mess.
2.) Prime your lids. As always with any strong or smokey makeup look, but in particular when wearing glitter. Your eyeballs will thank you.
3.) Complete your eye makeup look, apply glitter then finish with mascara and lashes if you are wearing them……you should. You can apply glitter last but it will probably drop onto your lashes.
4.) How to apply glitter so it actually sticks on your lid? = Glitter Glue. A very light watery (& gentle) glue that allows easy application of glitter and still allows the glitter to sparkle. I use the Ben Nye Glitter Glue. I literally dab on the glitter glue lightly with a brush on the area I want glitter then dab and press the glitter pigment on just with my fingertip. Layer it up until you get the depth you want.
5.) Clean up any residue of glitter on the face/under the eyes and then finish your face.
5.) Take a Q-tip or two out in your handbag. Droppage WILL happen throughout the night which is fine, but if you want to keep it looking very clean then you will need to dab away during loo visits.
6.) Removal help. Yes glitter gets everywhere and yes you need be a little more vigorous when removing your makeup after applying glitter on the eyes. The easiest method is to get over your sink and splash a good palmful of oil-based cleanser all over the face ; something like the DHC cleansing oil, and use lots of warm water and cloths to remove all sparkly residue.
Here, the key products I have used are the Make Up For Ever Metallic pigment in gold and the MAC reflects pigment in Antique Gold which I personally think is the best gold eye glitter money can buy. I think with a gold-based eye, you can pretty much wear any shade lip depending on how daring you want to be. Full product list is below.
