May Birchbox : Review + Contents.

This month’s Birchbox is a collaboration with Elizabeth Scarlett, the British homeware and accessories brand who have made this rather fancy eye mask. The theme is ‘Palm Leaves & Warm Breeze’ and as you have probably guessed, it’s all about looking forward to the warmer weather and prepping for the first signs of summer.

I feel after last week’s bank holiday weather we are already dusting off the flip-flops, beach towels and passports so this has landed just @ the right time. *looks out the window to grey skies and drizzle*

This is slightly different to your usual Birchbox, as it’s a ‘PLUS’ addition (hence why the arrival in a fancy bag with aforementioned fancy mask) which means you can OPT to pay an additional £14 to get the eye mask if you fancy (RRP £20 – so still a decent saving). If you don’t want the PLUS box, then you simply pay the usual monthly amount which is £10 & £2.95.

So let’s have a wee’ look inside:

Contents / Sizes + Savings

First up is the Greenfrog Botanics body wash. This is a beautiful organic formula that is scented with uplifting geranium & peppermint and it leaves the skin nourished and fresh. This is a decent 50ml travel size that will give a good 6-7 uses. I am really impressed with this, and am actually looking into buying some of the full-sizes from this range! The Nuxe Aquabella Micro-Exfoliating Purifying Gel is a brightening and clarifying face wash from Nuxe’s newest range, which I have actually been wanting to try so this 15ml tube is a perfect way to dip my toe in.

There is a tub of Native Unearthed Activated Charcoal Natural Deodorant Balm which is another product I’m really pleased with and interested in. Last year, I ditched my aerosol and anti-perspirants in favour of more natural deodorants and have been looking for a replacement of my current and costly favourite, the Aurelia Botanical Deodorant so am really hoping this is a good’un. It contains arrowroot, coconut oil, shea butter, rosehip and charcoal ; it smells wonderful and I will report back.

Makeup-wise there is a deluxe size of the Doucce Luscious Lip Stain. There is a choice of 2 shades that have been sent out in the boxes and I have the ‘Amber Rose’ which is a pretty rosey pink. It’s a typical liquid lippie, applies nicely and stays on really well. There is also a travel-size (1.2g) of the Eyeko Skinny Liquid EyelinerLOVE EYEKO :  Everything I have tried from them has been really good and I already have their Eye Do Eyeliner and have had my eyes on the skinnier version for a while.

Last but not least : the Elizabeth Scarlett Eye Mask (if you opt for the PLUS box). This is quite a thick and luxe-feeling mask which is made from cotton canvas and velvet and is embroidered with hand illustrated gold and green monstera leaves. This eye mask is also filled with lavender for a subtle scent and to help you sleep. I can imagine that this doesn’t interest everyone but you have no idea how happy I was to get this! I often sleep with a mask on particularly because I’m often going to bed super early atm and am generally not sleeping so well so HELLO GET ON MY FACE.

Value + Savings > Greenfrog Botanics Wash (50ml) = £1.50 / Nuxe Aquabella Cleansing Gel (15ml) = £1.20 / Native Unearthed Deodorant (15g) = £2 / Doucce Lipstain (2ml? at a guess, there’s no size on it) = £7 / Eyeko Skinny Eyeliner (1.2g) = £9.60

This box has a value of £21.30 which again is a decent (but actually not the best) saving of £8.35.

…So a pretty tasty box of contents, and an *ok* saving. From actually doing the ml / RRP calculations I have realised that the sizes aren’t actually as generous as normal and for a change, there is nothing actually FULL-SIZED in this box, unless you opt to pay for the extra and get the eye mask but I have not included this as I don’t think most subscribers would opt to pay more for this. Usually in the Birchbox there is at least 1 or 2 full-size products.

Aside from the lack of full size products, EVERY single item is something that I have wanted to try, am interested in and will use. There is a mixture of brands I already know AND brands that I have never heard of an for me it’s a good balance.
