Makeup Look : Making Blue Eyes POP.

This is probably one of my favourite eye looks on blue eyes as it makes them really stand out due to the warmer, orangey tones in this look. If you are unfamiliar with The Colour Wheel and are yearning for the perfect colour to compliment your eye shade then get in the know immediately. It’s what every makeup artist learns and I always have one in my kit for reference and colour ideas. If you look at the colour wheel (below) , select your eye shade or near/ish and then if you draw a line directly opposite to the other side, this is the tone which will bring out your eye shade the most, the ‘complimentary colour’. Directly opposite blue is orange. Obviously wearing a straight orange tone is not going to look great on everyone so adapt it and tone it down until you are comfortable as it’s just a rough guide and reference. Warmer brown tones, red browns, coppers, golds etc are all a blue-eyes girl or boy’s best friend.

Next time you are in an art shop, pick up a colour wheel for a few quid and keep it near your makeup, it’s really handy to have, particularly if you are a makeup artist.

My makeup look is a typical smokey/glamour eye with a slight cut-crease (a heavily accentuated socket). Copper glitter is popped in the inner of the lid to the middle of the lid to really makes this look a show-stopper, but you can leave this out if you haven’t got any glitter glue or in fact for that matter…….glitter. I have used the MAC Reflects in Copper here which is one of my personal favourites and as always, I apply it with the Ben Nye Glitter glue. Tap here to see my top tips on applying glitter onto the eyes so it keeps looking good all night.

I think with a copper eye, you can pretty much get away with any lip colour ; see how you feel and wear what you want. I like it equally as much with a ruby red, a purple tone or a pinky nude lip, which is what I opted for here. I quite like a matte lip contrast when you have glitter on the eye and here I am wearing NARS velvet matte lip pencil in ‘Bolero’ which is a really neon pastel coral.

Aside from the coppery, warm browns and dark chocolate tones on the eye, I added in a touch of purple eyliner on the inner rim of the eye, which was just on a whim but I really like the way it looks. Full product list is below.
