This week’s makeup crush comes from Ciate, a bit of an unusual one right, as I for one, only knew this brand for their glorious nail polishes. (I really need to try out that Olivia Palermo range/collaboration!) Recently they broke into the makeup category too and have so far introduced a simple and effective range of colour ; eye pencils and this, the Liquid Velvet lip colour in Risque.
The Liquid Velvet lip colours are a super-pigmented and very longwearing liquid lip colour. They are not only really bright and vivid, but they also are lightly hydrating so won’t dry out the lips like a lot of these liquid lippies can. Don’t get me wrong if you have flakey, cracked lips and swipe this on, it’s not going to do anything for you, you just need to have reasonable lip condition first before you wear ANY matte lip colours. It has a triple polymer formula and high quality pigments to ensure that very high coverage and hold.
I have used a bunch of these type of lip colours (Illamasqua / Limecrime / Barry M / Laura Mercier….every one kinda does them now) and these are really up there with the best. I love the spongey applicator on the Ciate ones and it allows you to flip it to the thinner edge to draw a lipline so you can get that really good precision and a nice sharp edge on the lips. This shade ‘Risque‘ is a really vibrant tomato red, so no blue tones….it’s more of an orange red and it’s a lovely summery tone. I’m 100% going to get ‘Diva’ too which is the really true red. They only do 5 shades currently but they have really hit the nail on the head with the selection, packaging and formula. Think of Limecrime Velvetines without all the hideous business morals 🙂 meow.
Formulated without parabens, sulfates, phthalates. Costs £17 and is available in various retailers and on the Ciate website.
