ELF Halo tint SPF50 Review : and how it looks on a 40+ oily skin!
ELF recently launched their ELF Halo Glow Tint SPF50 which I have been wearing A LOT over the summer here in the UK, so I wanted to finally review it for you and give you the lowdown on this skin-infused glowy protective base.
It costs £18 which shocked me a little to be honest – I think this is currently the most expensive makeup product that they now do and long gone are the days when everything used to be under £5!! It does seem a bit of a price leap but it is a skincare-infused hybrid product so perhaps this is why. Skincare ingredients include niacinamide, bisabolol and allantoin. The SPF is mineral and promises no white cast.
The ELF Halo Glow Tint SPF50 comes in 18 flexible shades that include cool, neutral and warm tones so hopefully everyone will be able to find their perfect match. When I purchased this I got a free little colour tester pack which I have swatched for you below as it could be useful – it obviously does not cover all 18 shades but it’s good to see a few of them. My perfect shade is 6 light cool which I purchased without having swatched irl so I was nervous it wouldn’t be my match but it’s honestly PERFECT for me and I am so pleased!

ELF Halo glow tint SPF50 Review : with Before + Afters!
My skin, for reference, is combination, textured, open-pores and I have fine lines at the age of 43. Maybe more than fine lines.
As I mentioned the shade match is brilliant on me and my perfect shade. The skin tint delivers on all of its promises – it gives a nice coverage – I would say slightly more than a light and it can be built up to a light-medium coverage. It gives a gorgeous glow and life to my skin. It FEELS skincare-infused and I had no white cast being a paler skin tone but I would be interested to see how it is on darker tones with the white cast (I’ve heard on good authority it’s good).
It leaves a really beautiful and natural finish on the skin, it looks like that perfect second-skin kind of base and it doesn’t feel heavy or sticky on the skin. YES, it needs setting or powdering if you are on the combination-oily side but that is normal with any base or foundation, particularly if they are giving glow and hydration.
I wear it quite sparingly on my skin, as below, which gives me a light coverage. It looks very natural and gives a nice no-makeup finish. I don’t find it accentuates my fine lines or pores it just gives that nice hot of coverage where I need and a bit more glow to my skin.
I think ideally this is suited for a normal to dry skin but can also suit a combination/oily skin if you prep and set your skin accordingly like I have.
I am really pleased with how it both looks and feels on my skin and it seems to last pretty well with light touch-ups throughout the day. Yes, it is expensive for ELF at £18 but it does tick all of the boxes and the formula is impressive. Saying that, I hope this isn’t the start of ELF venturing into the higher price point with their future launches. I think they have done so incredibly well by being *that* affordable but high-performing brand with LOADS of choice and I would really hate to see them straying away from this and I don’t think it would take along a lot of their current die-hard customers. Particularly, like me, if you have been using their products for 15-20 years + and remember when their products where all like £1-£2 lol. Stay with us ELF this is why we love you!
How the ELF Halo Glow Skin Tint SPF50 compares to the other ELF bases (+ swatches of my shades!)
Just in case you are curious to see if you need this off you have the halo glow Liquid Filter or other ELF foundations : Let’s have a quick chat about how it compares to the other TWO best-selling ELF bases which is the ELF Halo Glow Liquid Filter and the fuller coverage ELF Soft Glam Satin Foundation.
For reference I wear shades :
Shade 6 in the ELF Halo Glow Skin Tint SPF50
Shade 3 in the ELF Halo Glow Liquid Filter
Shade 25 in the ELF Soft Glam Foundation
Swatches of these all side-by-side are below. They don’t look identical by any means but these shades all work for me and the darkest tone is the liquid filter because this is the sheerest coverage so I can make the slightly warmer colour work on my skin tone PLUS I do use this to warm up my skin a touch before I use a concealer.
ELF Halo Glow Skin Tint SPF50 vs ELF Halo Glow Liquid Filter
The Halo Glow Skin Tint has a fair bit more coverage than the Halo Glow Liquid Filter. The Liquid Filter is also a lot more dewy on the skin. The liquid filter does not have SPF or really any skincare benefits.
ELF Halo Glow Skin Tint SPF50 vs ELF Soft Glam Foundation
The Halo Glow Skin tint is a light-medium coverage and the Soft Glam is a medium-full coverage. The skin tint has a dewy finish and the soft glam has a more satin-matte finish. The soft glam foundation does not really have any skincare benefits (it does have a hydrating complex) and it does not contain SPF.
