Birchbox January : Review.

After the last month’s Birchbox offerings, it was always going to be a tough act to follow. Let’s have a look at what’s inside the first Birchbox of 2017 themed ‘Sprinkle of Happiness’. Full of all things to help you kickstart your year off in the right way. Alongside the beauty products  is some tips + tricks to keep positive and happy, which I actually think is really cute….things like 10 minute daily meditation, a ‘positivity’ music playlist and keeping in touch with old friends via a postcard = LOVE!

Onto the Beauty…

Hmmmm a mixed bag (box) for me this month. First up a full-size Merci Handy hand cream (30ml). I thought this was a travel size but I think all the Merci products are designed to be handbag & travel-friendly as it seems quite small! It’s a nice hand cream, I will use it up and am always in need of hand salvation in the winter. There is also a Whish Shaving Cream (22ml) which is a nice size for travel and to sample. It has a nice vibrant scent of grapefruit, and it’s a good product BUT I don’t often use a shave cream personally so it’s not something I am overly excited by. More Bath & Body (heavy this month) in the form of the NUXE Multi-Use Dry Oil Shimmer (10ml). I like this product a lot and have used this for years, it’s actually the only product in the box I am familiar with and I will absolutely use it. It’s just a product I am sure has been in the box before and quite recently. I do love NUXE as a brand but it seems to be in every other Birchbox.

There is a mini Nails Inc nail polish in shade ‘Stratford’. It says on the Birchbox letter that this comes in assorted shades but I have only seen this shade in other people’s boxes too…..and it’s not the best. A bit of a murky shade, and I think it simply isn’t working much on my skintone, I think it will look nicer on a darker skin however. Last up is a Lord & Berry stick concealer (full size) which is probably the product I like the most out of this month’s box. It’s a nice creamy concealer which is perfect for brightening under my eye area. Lord & Berry is a brand, again, that it is probably in every other Birchbox, so it would be nice to see this maybe a little *less* and also I would not be impressed so much if this didn’t suit my skintone.

So, a slight downer for me overall I’m afraid. However I look forward to next month’s box as there is a preview of it which is going to include (look away if you don’t like spoilers).. a full-size Spectrum makeup brush which I think sounds really great, I am yet to try these much-talked about brushes.

Do you subscribe to Birchbox? What did you think of this month’s box?
