The brand new Stay Naked Hydromaniac Tinted Glow Hydrator has come at us with a BANG and has peaked a lot of interest from makeup lovers and if you haven’t heard of it, you *may* have been hiding under a rock : It’s EVERYWHERE!

Whenever Urban Decay launch a new foundation. I am VERY interested. The last one they launched, the Stay Naked Foundation,  is one of my favourite bases at the moment and I’ve talked about it quite a lot lately. As soon as I saw the Hydromaniac I was invested.

I had it in my basket when it launched, I forgot to checkout (thankfully!) as I was sent a few shades to try out which was a total surprise but very much welcomed. I have been giving it a good try out and wear over the last week or so, and I’m here to give you the full review, lowdown, my thoughts and A.O.B.

The Hydromaniac has the long-wearing, medium coverage of a foundation, all with the hydrating benefits of a tinted moisturiser.

I immediately assumed it was some form of tinted moisturiser because of the packaging ; It’s comes in a sleek squuezy-tube, with a really bold blue and gold eye-catching design. Everything about it screams a lighter, dewier base than what Urban Decay are already offering us and I’m totally here for it!

Hydromaniac Formula:

This base is all about the hydration. It’s infused with nutrient-rich kombucha filtrate and glow-giver Marula Oil to moisturise your skin and grant a glow that looks fresh throughout the day. The coverage can be a sheer, tinted moisturiser-esque or it can be layered up and built up to a medium coverage. This has an ultimate second-skin and seamless feel and I feel like it’s definitely gearing towards a more natural finish.

It also says that it has 24-hour wear and 24-hour hydration. I mean, that won’t sell it to me perosnally, my party days are long gone : I just care about how it looks and how it lasts over  day.

The formula is a surprisingly thick-feeling and sumptous cream. You imagine it may apply quite heavily but it sheers out quickly and easily. It definitely has that almost hybrid moisturiser-makeup feel to it and you can tell it contains oils.

Why Marula oil? It’s rich in fatty acids, vitamins and antioxidants and is a great hydrator for the skin. Lots of face oils and creams use these benefits of Marula oil and it’s interesting to see it in a foundation.

Shade Range:

The Urban Decay Hydromaniac has launched with 12 flexible shades which again, reitereates to me that it is a sheer formula and can be a little more adaptable than your full coverage. Urban Decay also sent me a really handy guide for your to easily match your Hydromaniac shade if you are already wear one of UD’s other bases. I can see from the chart that I am a 40WY in the Stay Naked at the moment so I opted for the 40 Light-Medium shade which by the way is BANG ON. An absolute perfect match!

Coverage and Wear:

When I first tried on the Hydromaniac I knew straight away it was my kinda base : dewy AF, glowy, natural-looking, weightless on the skin AND it just simply gives you that really healthy and awake-looking skin. Due to the hydrating properties in it (Marula Oil) this is definitely geared towards a normal-dry skin type OR if you are combination like me and simply can’t get enough of that glow. If you are oily and hate the dew and get problems with foundation staying on etc, this isn’t for you;.

I tried it many different ways and even without primer or powder it lasted pretty well. With a primer and setting powder : it stayed on really well with the usual light tough up needed once in the day. It’s a BRILLIANT formula and it may be too early to say but I think it’s my favourite base from Urban Decay. I LOVE THIS PRODUCT!

I usually apply any kind of tinted moisturiser/ BB/ CC usually with my fingertips but as this is a little more, then a brush worked for me best :  as always I opt for a synthetic buffing type of foundation brush. this blends it on really well and sheers it out to look lovely and seamless. You can of course use a sponge or even fingertips if you prefer.

Urban Decay were 100% coming for the IT CC+ Cream with this formula. There’s no doubt! That’s the one product that it instantly reminded me off, in terms of the feel, the thick cream formula, the feel and finish. Main difference : this doesn’t contain SPF (or snail secretion lol > google it it’s true my friends) AND this is probably nearer to the illuminating IT CC+.

Who’s it best for?

It has oil in it and it’s very hydrating : you know your skin and probably how it reacts to different foundations and skincare already. If you need oil-free, you want super long wear, matte/demi-matte or even a satin finish…this isn’t gonna be your holy grail. (try the Gucci foundation ; I wrote about that HERE)

I think you will love this if you like a dewy, natural and radiant finish. You don’t want a full coverage but want to look healthy AF. This will do all of those things for you.
