The latest Naked drop from Urban Decay has just landed so I wanted to give you the lowdown, the looks, swatches and my review. Say G’Day to the Urban Decay Naked Wild West Eyeshadow palette.

This has just launched onto Cult Beauty and Urban Decay priced at £45. It’s their first ever VEGAN eyeshadow palette which is pretty big news.The Wild West palette is inspired by the Californian desert, Joshua Tree and hazy summers in the desert heat : 12 shades of warm and dusky tones including peaches, terracota, azure greens, teal and warm browns. 

For me, it’s actually quite an unusual colour combination and on first impressions I wasn’t that bowled over by the shade selection and part of me thought they didn’t marry together very well. Upon using the palette and creating some looks it’s actually a really wearable and easy to put-together-palette. It surprised me!

As always with the Urban Decay Naked palettes, it has 12 shades and a mixture of shimmer, metallics and mattes. The palette has a mirror within and their signature double-ended eyeshadow brush: one end for buffing and blending and the other for application.

I found most of the eyeshadows to swatch and apply really well. My favourite shades have to be the Bud, Rustler and the stunning Tex. Shades that were a little tricky for me were the Laredo and Whiskey and Ghost Town. These are all matte shades and they were just a little chalkier than the others and needed a bit more work to blend and apply without looking patchy. I was a bit surpised as I have very similar shades to these from Urban Decay in other palettes that are SO much better in terms of payoff and pigment…perhaps it the new vegan formulas? I’m not so sure but I was a teeny bit disappointed that they didn’t seem your typical UD quality.

As always, make sure you are using a good eyeshadow primer (the UD Eye potion of course!) and the product will adhere and work better for you, particularly with these matte shades discussed above. Honestly you can get them to all work really well they just need a little more care and attention. The two stand out shades from the palette are probably the Bud and Tex and I think this are what I’m seeing a lot when people have been using this palette to create looks. They look beautiful when layered and blended together. 

The two more shimmery shades are the Hold ‘Em (gold) and Cowboy Rick (Silver) and these make for great highlighter, halo pops and inner corner shades. The first three matte shades (Standoff, Spur, Nudie) in the palette are great nude bases to give you a nice clean-looking lid before you go to town with the colour.

Eye Makeup Looks.

First up, apologies! My *proper* camera broke last week when I was shooting this and even though I got the swatch photos and palette pictures, my eye looks are form my i-phone so I haven’t got the close-up eye looks as usual!

I had a play around with this palette over the last few days and came up with some fun looks using all of the shades in some combination. You can get a really serious warm, smokey eye from this palette, more fun teal and green based looks an even super nude and subtle….it’s as versatile as you want it to be.

So what do you think of the Urban Decay Wild West palette? Is it something you think you need in your stash?! I do have lots of similar shades to this in my collection for sure, but not put together in this combination. If you take out the 2 blue/green shades it’s a very easy warm/smokey palette!
