The latest launch from MURAD skincare is the long-awaited City Skin Age Defense SPF50. It couldn’t have dropped at a better time to be honest and I’ve been using it this last month to see me through garden hangouts, UK heatwaves, walks to the supermarket and everything in-between.

The Murad City Skin Age Defense is a mineral sunscreen, broad spectrum SPF50 PA+++. It is suitable for all skin types including sensitive and oily. Fragrance free.

I have only recently (this year) tried out Murad skincare after hearing about it for quite some years. If you don’t know, it was the first modern day ‘doctor’s brand’ using clinical skincare products that was founded in 1989. Dr Murad believes that ‘skincare is healthcare’ and wants people to achieve their healthiest and most beautiful skin possible.

I was intrigued to try this SPF as all my face SPF30 and 50’s had run out from last year and I was actually on the hunt for a new one that suited my skin. I have had a few problems with SPF for the face over the years, mainly because I am an oily gal, even MORE so in the summer months so texture, the feeling on the skin and breakouts can be a problem for me.

For some reason I was expecting a fluid-like lotion but this is actually a cream formula, beige in colour but doesn’t transfer and is colourless. It applies well and doesn’t leave any white/blue film on the skin  like some SPF’s can. When you massage it in, it spreads quickly and dries to a pretty demi-matte and lightweight feel.

Saying that, I am oily and it feels comfortable on my skin, but I find it a little much to wear it layered over serum-moistursier + then this SPF. I can definitely feel like I have an extra layer on when I apply it so if it’s a hot day, I will apply this as my daily face cream.

It’s not *just* an SPF sun protection either, which is why I don’t mind wearing it as my face cream on occasion ; it also protects against other causes of ageing such as pollution and blue light.

The UV filters are zinc oxide and titanium dioxide which provide broad spectrum UVA/UVB protection. This formula also contains iron oxides to protect the skin from infrared radiation, Lutein to defend against blue light and a polymer matrix that acts like a second skin which protects against pollution.

It has a higher price point than I would expect from Murad, I expected it to be around the £40 region but this costs £60. The formula is lovely, it does a little more than your standard SPF face lotion but this is quite a pricey product for sure.

I have only recently starting using Murad skincare and am actually really impressed with everything I have tried so far, I think the formulas are great and I’m a big convert to the amazing Vita-C glycolic serum (read my review here). The popular retinol range has been proving really good too and I will have my full review of that coming soon!
