Alpha H vitamin serums review

*This post contains press samples*

A skincare wardrobe of skin vitamins.

Created as a bespoke and customisable range of serum treatments to boost your overall skin health where the control is totally in your hands. The Alpha H Vitamin Serums are there for when you need a certain ‘something’ for your skin that it’s just not getting.

These launched just a few months ago and I was lucky enough to be on the Zoom launch with the Alpha-H team who answered all our questions and gave us the best advice on how to get the most out of these serums.

*I would like to share my condolences with the whole Alpha H team and friends, as the founder of Alpha H, Michelle Doherty, sadly passed away just a couple of weeks ago. A pioneer in the skincare industry and renowned for bringing glyoclic acid to the mainstream in skincare with Alpha H’s infamous Liquid Gold over 25 years ago. I only had the pleasure of meeting her once but from what my fellow beauty industry friends say, she was an incredible woman to work with, to laugh with and to have known.*

These potent concentrates are all focused on skin health and customising your regime to what you need. There are 4 serums : Vitamin A, B, C, E. These are all essential for fighting free radicals, brightening the skin tone, evening out the texture, plumping, nourishing, minimising fine lines and radiance.

These vitamin serums are designed to be used ALONE (not mixed with serum) so they apply straight onto a cleansed face, before your moisturiser and SPF. They have a specific delivery system that may not work if layered over other products.

Vitamin A with evening primrose

This uses the powerful benefits of retinol to resurface, enhance skin turnover and improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and the appearance of the skin. Contains 0.5% Retinol. If your main concerns are ageing, excess sebum, fine lines ; this is the one you pick up

This is all about skin renewal, regeneration without the downtime (redness/peeling) of some stronger retinols. This is to be used PM only and before your night cream or solo.

Vitamin B with copper tripeptide

Vitamin B is all about building up the moisture levels in your skin, improving the barrier function and reducing redness.  It also contains hyaluronic acid and copper tripeptides to plump and brighten the skin. This can be used both AM/PM. Contains 5% Vitamin B3.  A great one for acne / hormonal skin.

Vitamin C with grape seed extract

One of the old favourites! Vitamin C is renowned for use in skincare and it’s a really strong super antioxidant to really protect the skin, brighten and help produce collagen. This used Ethyl Ascorbic Acid (3%) which is a stable and user-friendly vitamin C. Fabulous for sun damage scarring, hyper pigmentation, dull skin and uneven skin tone.

This is combined with hyaluronic acid, grape seed extract and licorice extract to inhibit melanin production, soothe and hydrate.

Vitamin E with macadamia

The SOS serum! This is all about soothing, caring and repairing the skin. Perfect for when your skin is reactive, red, stressed or just in need of some super TLC. Vitamin E will help to re-build and nurture the skin and fortify the barrier function. Also great for post-blemish scarring, reactions and inflammation.

I’ve mainly been using the Vitamin B and I’ve just this week cracked into the Vitamin E this week. after a little too much sun and fun over the weekend (my skin is feeling a little irritable!). These are designed to be used as and when you need so in theory you can be using them all in a week depending on your skin’s needs.

I chose to use the Vitamin B first as I very much liked the sound of plumping, hydrating and brightening. It is blue in colour but only very lightly and it leaves no trace on the skin, fear not! It has quite an unusual texture and it’s almost a hybrid between a face oil and a serum ; you just need a few drops as it feels like a concentrate and I press it all over my face.

I really love the formulas I have tried and also the concept to this skincare treats and how you can just slip them into your regime as and when they are needed. I’ve always been one for having a skincare ‘wardrobe’ and not sticking to a regimented regime, more just switching it up depending on what my skin needs day-by-day so these are perfect for me.

The full-size individual Alpha H Vitamin Serums are a 25ml size and cost £39 (Vit E is £29) but you can also get the Vitamin Kit Serum which has all 4 in 15ml sizes for £55. I think this is a great idea if you do want to use them à la skincare wardrobe and also see which one/s you like the most.

Alpha H is one of my favourite skincare brands and I’m using so much of their products at the moment, and I’d really recommend these and the infamous Liquid Gold if you want a taster of what this brand is all about. Have you got any favourites from Alpha H? Let me know your thoughts!
