ELF Cosmetics Halo Glow Liquid Filter Review.

elf halo glow liquid filter

The ELF Cosmetics Halo Glow Liquid Filter launched last month and I have been using it pretty much ever since. I know SO many people are intrigued by this so I wanted to share with you my full review and thoughts on this product. Let’s chat all things ELF Halo Glow Liquid Filter my friends!

Is the ELF Cosmetics Halo Glow Liquid Filter a dupe for the Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter? Are there other products similar to it? What does it actually do and who can use it?! I’m gonna answer all you need to know!

We all bloody love a dupe don’t we?! Even more so than ever I am finding it so good to find cheaper but great quality alternatives to our beauty and fragrance favourites. I also think brands are quite onto this too and we are getting served some *very* familiar products from different brands. Let’s not beat around the bush, Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter is an iconic product : it’s BRILLIANT and always deserves the regongtion when brands come out with these kind of glow boosting products as they are almost always heavily inspired by the O.G : The Charlotte Tilbury.

The Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter launched in 2018 and it instantly became a hit with makeup-artists, the beauty press and the general consumers..there was nothing quite like it on the market, yet a product we had clearly all been yearning for! As with all popular products, other brands will re-create and bring out their wn versions and this has been done by a fair few now. PS Here is my full review of the Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter.

The latest contender to throw their glow-boosting product into the ring is ELF Cosmetics with the Halo Glow Liquid Filter ; amongst a lot of hype in the makeup world! It sold out instantly and was seemingly hard to get hold of initially. I think all the stock levels are pretty good now so it’s not so hard to buy but I had to buy directly from the E.L.F website and it took maybe a week or so to arrive and I gotta tell ya…. I didn’t love the customer journey shopping from there! I would recommend maybe trying to buy this from Boots.anyway let’s talk all things E.L.F Halo Glow.

ELF HALO GLOW LIQUID FILTER REVIEW.

I colour-matched myself online by just looking at the swatches and fortunately got it completely bang on! I was so pleased as I always get nervous buying any kind of base product / foundation / concealer online without trying it first. I opted for shade 3 light/medium. They currently do 8 ‘flexi shades’, which basically means they are quite pliable and one product can be used on multiple skin tones. The pigment is not heavy, therefore there will usually be less shades of these kind of glow boosters / light coverage bases than say a foundation. ELF do 8 shades of the Halo Glow Liquid Filter at the moment. It costs £14 for 31.5 ml.

The blurb tells you that this product is a skin-makeup hybrid, and contains squalene and hyaluronic acid to nourish and hydrate the skin. It also contains finely milled powders which are to blur fine lines and pores for a smooth-focus finish.

There packaging is really nice : it’s super pretty, it feels luxe and good quality in a glass bottle with muted pink lid. It has a oversized doe-foot applicator as the Charlotte Tilbury one. This makes is easy to slather straight into the face and then you can blend it in with fingertips or a brush/sponge from there.

It has a lovely blendable liquid texture, it has glow and it has coverage. It is a light coverage. I am happy to wear the ELF Halo Glow as my day-to-day base with a touch of concealer where needed….and powder! It leaves the skin glow, fresh and dewy as expected so oily-combination peeps like myself will want to set it to stop it going super shiny. You can also wear this under your base/foundation and as a skin prep for when you want that fuller coverage.

SHADES OF THE ELF HALO GLOW LIQUID FILTER:

It currently comes in 8 flexible shades. I wear shade 3 light/medium and this is perfect for me. I am around a MAC NW30 / Laura Mercier Bisque / NARS Sante Fe that kind of tone.

The shade swatches are below and this is what I used to gauge and select my shade as I was purchasing online. As the pigment in these is less dense than in a foundation, more towards a tinted moisturiser they are more flexible hence why there are not that many shades HOWEVER it would be good to see a few more for sure.

HOW TO USE AND APPLY THE ELF HALO GLOW LIQUID FILTER

This product can be used as a skin prep/primer under your makeup to give extra glow and hydration. It can be used in place of foundation if you are after a light, dewy coverage. lt can also be used over foundation/ base to highlight and give glow to the skin.

I apply it by swatching it straight onto my face with the oversized doe foot applicator and then just blending it in with wither my fingertips or a brush – personal preference! As it is a sheer coverage base it doesn’t require a lot of blending and it merges into the skin really well.

ELF HALO GLOW VS CHARLOTTE TILBURY HOLLYWOOD FLAWLESS FILTER.

The big question :  How does the ELF Halo Glow compare with the Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter? There are a lot of similarities. I think the ELF Halo Glow is *the* most similar to the CT that I have personally tried. The main difference is that the ELF Halo Glow has MORE pigment aka more coverage in it than the Charlotte Tilbury. It is still a light coverage but definitely a bit more than you will get from the CT.

The ELF applicator is larger than the Charlotte Tilbury. The price difference too of course! The ELF Halo Glow comes in @ £14 VS the Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter @ £36.

The ELF Halo Glow Liquid Filter has 8 shades, the Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter currently has 12.

Similar in many ways and honestly I love both products so it’s hard to say which is better. If you want that slightly heavier coverage alongside your glow booster then maybe the ELF. If you are more inclined to want to wear this AS your base as opposed to a skin prep/primer then maybe the ELF. If you want all-out luxury and love those Charlotte Tilbury products in your makeup bag then you do you. I think both are great products, at the moment I am opting for the ELF because of my budget.

OTHER SIMILAR PRODUCTS TO THE ELF HALO GLOW LIQUID FILTER:

There are SO many of the glow-boosting type products on the market at the moment. Apparently even Primark does one?! I did get told that Boots 17 did a version but that to me is simply a hydrating and dewy primer, it doesn’t contain the pigment and coverage like these other ones.
