I’m off to the French Alps pretty much as this post goes live for a week of skiing, apres-ski, slipping over in the street and snowball fights. I haven’t been skiing for quite a few years so I’m praying I’m not going to be coming back in a full body cast.
Even if the weather is not *that* cold, you can be rest-assured that your skin will take a good battering from the wind, sun and the constant change of temperatures. I am going at the time when it is a little milder…..but it is still cold, possibly very sunny and it’s always windy mountain-top.
DAILY SKINCARE.
SPF 50 is a necessity no matter what time of year you are skiing. I won’t wear anything less on my face for skiing and my current go-to is La Roche Posay Anthelios XL SPF50 . This is THE BEST. Lightweight, no fragrance and suitable for all skins including sensitive & acne prone. The sun is SO extreme when skiing as it it is constant with little shade AND it reflects back off the snow hence why it is SO easy to burn without even realising until the end of the day. Keep re-applying and stay sun safe = KEY.
Pack a good multi balm you can slather anywhere and everywhere it is needed. Sore hands, lips, cheeks and dry patches < There will be lots of these. My go-to at them moment is the simple but effective Purepotions Skin Salvation Ointment. I have reviewed and featured this loads ; It’s simply one of the best multi-balms, completely natural, inexpensive and works everywhere. It’s in a big heavy glass jar so I will be de-canting this into a small travel pot.
The Jurlique Rosewater Balancing Mist is something I travel with ALWAYS. I have this teeny 30ml bottle which I just re-fill as needed and it lasts perfectly for a good week or two away. I use this for on-the-go hydration, as a toner under my skincare and it’s great also for inflight skin rehydration.
The Darphin Intral Soothing Cream is something I have had in my stash for years and is always good to have on hand for when you want something calming, anti-inflammatory and deeply nourishing for when your skin needs it. I’ll be slathering this on thickly under my SPF.

SKI-FRIENDLY MAKEUP.
Let’s not mess about : it’s not very snow-chique or do-able to be whizzing down to slopes with 3 pairs of lashes, contour and smokey eyes. That crap will be sliding, flying and sweating off your face in no time. It’s better to be understated and keep your makeup as minimal as you can. I’m just fake-tanning it up before I go and then a dollop of tinted moisturiser, a slick of cheek and lip tint and a good, steadfast mascara. A great tinted moisturiser-type-thing that also has SPF AND is lovely and lightweight is the Dr Perricone No Foundation Foundation. If you want ethereal , yet perfected and glowing skin with a kick of anti-ageing goodness then this is the one. They do a whole line of this skincare-infused-no-makeup-makeup and I swear by everything I have tried. I will probably also slip the bronzer and concealer from them into my bag also.
Keeping the lashes looking decent = The DHC Perfect Pro Double Protection Mascara. This is a typical Japanese formula which is the resistant ‘tubular’ formula that literally stays on all day without flaking, smudging or smearing AND simply comes off with warm water. Magical? Yes! Perfect for sporting activities, humidity, long days, sweating and weepy eyes..YES!
If you need a bit of eyeliner to see you through then the Eyeko Sport Waterproof eyeliner is one of the best that stays on and is nice and creamy to apply even in the waterline. I tend to just use this in my upper lash line to enhance my lashes rather than all over my eyes. It also has an in-built sharpener HOO-RAH.
A great multi-makeup-product is the Tata Harper Volumising Lip & Cheek Tint. It’s small and portable and I love this shade both on my lips and cheeks : a perfect berry glow to make it look like you have a wonderful alpine flush from a day of skiing ; even if you have been sat in the bar all day sipping mulled cider.
APRES SKI BEAUTY | S.O.S
I am seriously unfit. I haven’t been skiing for YEARS so I am no doubt going to be in a world of pain after day 1. Step up my Aromatherapy De-Stress Muscle Gel. Perfect to soothe the aches and pains of overworked muscles. This is the ultimate antidote to achey, overworked muscles and I shall be slathering myself in this every evening. It contains essential oils of Rosemary, Lavender, Ginger & Black Pepper that eases muscle aches & pains and also warms and soothes the muscles.
The Antipodes Aura Manuka Mask is going to be my PM skin treatment/ night cream and face pack. Tried & tested, this is brilliant and perfect to give the skin a hydration boost.
MAKING IT TRAVEL-FRIENDLY.
I’m pretty good @ my travel packing now, and although I am super beauty-needy and heavy when I travel I opt for products that are in lighter/small packaging, take travel sizes and/or sample sachets I have accumulated to save that much-needed room. All my face creams, serums and masks are going to be in sachet form. If I don’t have sachets of what I want then I will decant it into a small travel tub which you can buy from Boots / Superdrug in the travel section.
Do you have any go-to travel products? If you ski or have been to really cold countries on your travels, what were your beauty necessities?
Psssssttttttt Keep your eyes peeled for my One-Week-Skiing Vlog that will be up on my You Tube channel when I get back!
