Maybelline Colossal Bubble Mascara Review with Before & Afters

Another day, another new Maybelline mascara launch. Honestly I struggle to keep up! Maybelline ARE the leaders in the high street mascara game in my opinion and they have a LOT to choose from. The latest mascara launch from them is the Colossal Bubble Mascara and I’m here to give you an honest review, my thoughts on this mascara and the all-important before and afters.

Colossal Bubble mascara delivers buildable inflated volume with sleek separation. This long-lasting mascara has breakthrough ‘bubble technology’ that features an inflator comb brush and lash inflating formula. The brush is spiral-shaped with deep-cut bristles and is made to inflate 100% of lashes from root to tip for a separated, sleek look that last. Plus, its formula creates a bubble lash look and feel. It has been ophthalmologist tested and is suitable for contact lens wearers.

I think the advertising for this mascara is a little questionable in terms of the before and after images and I know they are stricter these days with advertising standards but I just somehow cannot quite believe these before and after images have not been photo-shopped a little – thoughts?!

Anyway, below you can see some REAL and un-altered photos of how the mascara performs on my and my slightly sad, non-existent lashes.

I tend to read blogs over video / influencer ads and reviews when it comes to makeup and skincare these days because honestly, I struggle to trust so many. Things can be so easily edited, altered and YEP some even like to put false lashes on when advertising mascara – lol. It’s a minefield. I think this is also why I am coming back to my blog to bring good old school classic reviews with unedited images. I think it’s helpful to a lot of people who are just so over the online BS and spiralling hype when it comes to makeup reviews.

Maybelline Colossal Bubble Mascara Review

The packaging is fun and slightly different to the other Maybelline mascaras – on-trend lemon yellow packaging with eye-catching metallic fonts and it stands out from their other mascaras. I was a little confused about the ‘bubble’ in the name and what the reference was and it’s supposedly because it ‘inflates’ the lashes for a bubble lash look and feel – I still find this concept quite confusing and a little bit odd if I’m honest but hey, beauty brands are scrabbling to come up with eye-catching names, ideas and innovations these days.

The wand is described as an ‘inflator comb’ which I think you’ll agree, sounds kind of fu**king ridiculous but we move. It is silicone, spiral-shaped with deep-cut bristles to give root-to-tip coverage and separation.

The formulas of this mascara is what gives the lashes the thick / inflated look – it is quite thick and VERY black. It stays really well on me, and it doesn’t flake or smudge. As with most mascaras, this took a few wears and applications before I got used to it and how best to apply. I do think it is a great mascara and I do reach for it a lot – at the moment – until next week’s launch. I think the key things for me is that is looks VERY black and inky and it definitely gives volume to my thin and sparse lashes.

Here are the before and afters on me, unedited as always so you can see how it really looks as opposed to the slightly ridiculous adverts. I have very normal lashes, they aren’t very long or impressive and I always curl them before mascara. As you can see from the before and after images, the mascara definitely does give a nice finish on my lashes, they look very black and quite. bit thicker. It’s not totally spectacular and it’s probably not the best mascara I have ever used but I don’t regret purchasing by any means. It’s a decent all-rounder which is probably amongst the top 5 faves from Maybelline mascaras for me. Would I purchase it again once it has run out? No, I wouldn’t. That is because there is a few from the brand I prefer over this one (lash sensational & firework) AND by the time this has run out, Maybelline would have probably launched another two that I will be interested to try.
