I wanted to talk to you ALL about the fabulous and infamous Elemis pro-collagen cleansing balms…to compare and chat about the different ones they do. I’m relatively new to them, having only tried them out in the last couple of years, but I think they are really gorgeous…and I love the fact they have a few to choose from to suit your taste and skin type.
*of course they have gone and launched ANOTHER scent of cleanser just as I was writing this : there is now a ‘Watermint’ version too!*

One of their most iconic products is the Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm. I remember this was on my wish list for so long before I finally got around to trying it and it didn’t disappoint. I have now managed to try out all 3 so let’s chat about them, the scents, the differences in ingredients and all that stuff in between.
The original Elemis Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm.
The yellow one. The number 1 bestseller! This is a nourishing, deep cleansing balm that removes makeup, SPF and daily pollutants and grime. It has a unique blend of 9 essential oils, flower waxes, lavender chamomile and eucalyptus which gives it a nice, aromatic and luxurious scent.
It leaves skin feeling really lovely and soft. It nourishes the skin’s lipid barrier and doesn’t strip. The balm has a transformative 3-in-1 texture : it will melt from a balm into an oil once warmed into the hands and then you massage it all over the face and eyes. Add warm water, and it then emulsifies to a milky texture and then simply remove with the cleansing cloth provided. It removes ALL makeup!
You can use it as a daily cleanser (I use it as my step 1 of 2) or a deep, nourishing mask once a week. It is sumptuous, it’s a joy to use and it’s just one that really works.
The Elemis Pro-Collagen Rose Cleansing Balm.
Like the original but with added English Rose Oleo Extract to soothe and soften the skin.
The formulas is VERY similar to that of the original above, I’ve inspected the full ingredients list and the Rose formula doesn’t contain the essential oils of the original (there is 9) and instead has a slightly different oil formula and added rose extracts, rose oils and waxes. As it contains less essential oils, it is better for a more sensitive skin. The scent is stronger than I had imagined, and smells almost like dried roses….which I like, although it’s just something to be aware of.
The NEW Elemis Pro-Collagen Naked Cleansing Balm.
A very clever move I think as I know some people simply don’t like a scent to their skincare and anything with fragrance in *can* cause stinging around the eye area so this is also great for more sensitive and reactive skins as they have removed the essential oils/ fragrance. You still get the same cleansing experience and it removes everything with ease including waterproof makeup, SPF and everything else in between.
Apparently this is limited edition but I really hope and think they should keep a totally fragrance free and essential oil free cleansing balm.
All of the Elemis Pro-Collagen cleansing balms are mineral oil free. They all feel very similar in texture and they all have that 3-in-1 melting balm > oil > milk magic! I don’t feel one is better than the other in terms of effectiveness performance and how it removes makeup I honestly think it’s just down to the scent you like. I feel like I still love the original ; I like that spa-in-jar enjoyment and the sensory side to it is part of the enjoyment for me when I use a product! However, I would definitely suggest a more sensitive and reactive skin may want to opt for the Rose or Naked cleansers.
I am REALLY intrigued by the new Pro-Collagen Watermint Cleansing Balm : again it’s a scent-change as opposed to a big formula one, and this is inspired by the British seashore with added notes of Ozonic, mandarin, orange flower and water lily. This sounds RIGHT up my street and everyone is saying it’s incredible so maybe this will be next on my list. I have heard that this will be an on-going product, not a limited edition!
All the Elemis Pro-Collagen cleansing balms cost £44 for 100g size and this comes with 1 cleansing cloth. I find this size lasts me about 3 months of daily use. I hope this post was helpful and do let me know what you think in the comments! Which is your favourite?
