October 2022 : The Good Bits.

pretty flowers

October is always my favourite month of the year. For me, it runs deeper than pumpkin spiced lattes and cosy knits (although I tip my hat to both of those things!). October is the month I celebrate my birthday, I celebrate my late mother’s Birthday, it’s our wedding anniversary AND I’m a sucker for Halloween and all the other normal things that come with October. It’s a special month to me, always.

October is a month of transition and change. We step into the colder months. The winter wardrobe comes down from the loft, the summer garbs gets packed into the vacuum bags that always end up not being airtight. Skincare regimes are tightened up and expanded to incorporate more care, more hydration and more nurturing. We look forward to Christmas and wonder when is it too early to get those decorations up. Let’s chat all things October!

Here are the good things.

Beautiful Sunrises and Sunsets.

It’s THAT time of year. I started going for 7-8am walks a few years ago in the lead-up to Christmas and one thing, aside from the exercise, I appreciated the most….the most incredible sunrises. Hues of pinks, oranges, frosty lashings of the morning cold and simply the best time to get out, stretch the legs and get some of that British cold air in our lungs.

Half-term with Margot.

Ok , not gonna lie, there was some REALLY tough times this October half-term. Like very. I try to out-weigh the bad with the good and there was some really lovely days and moments. My daughter, Margot, if you don’t know, is autistic so it can be very challenging taking her to places and doing ‘normal things’. We keep trying and trying though and we always work out something to do in the day that is enjoyable and brings a smile to her face. I always get out to do something every single day no matter what. We did some new walks, some new parks and discovered some fun places to go.

Pumpkin Picking.

We all do this now, right?! When did this become a thing?! We are getting inspiration from our American friends with all things Halloween here in the UK aren’t we? They do Halloween SO WELL in America and I feel like soon we are all going to be having insane parties, going ALL OUT on the decor and living and breathing halloween for the entire month of October. Oh we already are? Ok. Well pumpkin picking is a really fun thing to do and with SO many pumpkin patches popping up everywhere we are kind of spoilt for choice. For the last couple of years I’ve gone to one across in Dorset which is a very small, low-key pumpkin-picking field. It’s more my vibe and better for my daughter, Margot without the crowds and too much noise. We had a really lovely afternoon here and we got the perfect pumpkin for carving and soups!

My Floral Dr Marten Boots!

I’m so happy to dust these off again, I’ve been neglecting them over the summer but it was just too hot for Dr Marten boots. I really love my floral DM boots, as you can probably tell… I harp on about these a lot and it’s because they bring me joy! Perfect for autumn winter weather and style and I’ve been wearing them so much lately. They go with everything.

A cosy pub lunch out for my Birthday.

We went to The Queen’s Arm pub nr Sherborne for a pub lunch and it was so lovely and unexpected (it was a surprise for me!). We haven’t had a lunch out for many, many months so it always feels like such a treat nowadays. The chips were some of the tastiest I’ve ever (thank you, caper salt) and I had a banging Bloody Mary to begin! The starters and nibbles were all so god although I ordered poorly for the main (my own fault – I went vegetarian and was very jealous of Tom’s steak!). We’ll be back.

Apple Day @ The Newt in Somerset.

I can’t think of anything more middle-class than this but I’m sorry, I’m putting my hands up…I went and enjoyed every bit of Apple Day. Yep, I’m old and boring now, this is the kind of shit that I do in South Somerset. We are members of the Newt in Somerset as we live 5 minutes away so we really get use out of it : we go and have walks around the gardens at least twice a month and the farmshop is INSANE my friends.

Sephora UK opening.

YES and finally. I actually did a Tik Tok video of this news way before it was *out there* and I was meant with PAHS , denials and laughter. WELL…..HA!….It’s here, it’s happening and the stores are opening soon my friends. You can shop online right now at Sephora UK HERE.

Gangs of London.

The second season is now on Sky and wow it’s pretty intense. Warning : this is very violent, bloody and the fight scenes, grizzly death scenes are not for everyone, but I am really enjoying it and it’s always nice to find a series you both enjoy in the evenings.

Sunday Roasts.

It’s roast season my friends! I LOVE nothing more than a Sunday roast and I can’t wait to get stuck into making my weekly offering. It’s also something I really enjoy doing, the process to me is kinda therapeutic and of course the results are always satisfying and well worth the effort! During the summer and warmer months we usually do lighter version but it’s back to the full works with all the trimmings from now until April!

Wow, and now we say goodbye to October. It’s kind of nice to look back and think…..actually we did ok. We squeezed a lot more into that month than I thought and we came out of it ok! Now, we look forward to Christmas. It’s coming for us all.
