The Ultimate Chocolate Orange Pancakes!

chocolate orange pancake recipeHappy Pancake day! I wanted to share with you my amazing recipe for Terry’s Chocolate Orange American pancakes! Stack ’em high and share them amongst your household, these are a whole meal in themselves!

I’ve always been a fan of pancakes, crepes and anything else in between….if it’s made from a batter recipe…count me in! I do like the traditional crepe-style pancakes with a little bit of melted butter, sugar and lemon, but I don’t think you can beat the American-Style pancakes. They are thick, fluffy, cake-like and go well with sweet as well as savoury.

I think my favourite topping with American pancakes has to be the good ol’ maple and crispy streaky bacon but this year I’m doing something a little different…..and SUPER INDULGENT. You Know I’m a chocolate orange fanatic and I’m always trying new recipes out with my beloved Terry’s chocolate orange so of course I’ve married the two in this amazing recipe.

For this, I used a basic American pancake recipe and played around with ways to get the chocolate orange flavour just right. I did initially add orange flavouring into the pancake batter but tbh it was actually a bit much so the best way I found, is as below (and it’s pretty easy!). I have made these melting-middle pancakes before with white chocolate and raspberry which was a hit too!

chocolate orange pancake recipe(Makes 3 thick pancakes / enough for 2-3 people – trust me!)

270g Plain Flour

4 tbsp Caster Sugar

2 tsp Baking Powder

1 tsp Salt

260ml Milk

2 Eggs

4 tbsp Butter (melted and cooled slightly)

1 whole Terry’s Chocolate Orange – cut into chunks.

  1. Mix the dry ingredients in one bowl and the wet (milk, egg, melted butter) in another
  2. Combine to make a thick batter. It shouldn’t be too runny otherwise you won’t get the thick American pancake we all know and love!
  3. Heat a knob of butter into a small frying pan (approx 6 inches or smaller if you have) and add a ladle of pancake batter so it covers the base of the pan.
  4. Let it cook for a minute and add your chocolate crumbles. Cook for a further 2 minutes.
  5. Ladle on a bit more pancake batter so it cover the chocolate. this will give you that melting middle.
  6. This is a little tricky but try and let it cook a little more on a low heat (be sure it’s not burnt on the bottom!) and flip the pancake over with a
  7. Cook for a further 2 minutes to the other side is done and has a bit of colour.
  8. Serve up on a plate, stack them high!
