This is the latest beauty bomb to drop from New Zealand skincare brand Antipodes and it’s a good ‘un. The Halo Skin-Brightening Facial Mud Mask is pretty much what it says on the tin and it’s a great all-rounder and skin prep for when you are in need of a quick pick-me-up, deep cleanse and radiance boost.
It’s a perfect treat for this time of year when skin starts to get a little oilier with the warmer temps, and when heavy bases are ditched in favour of skin-baring beauty balms and lighter bases.
This mud + clay mask is definitely something I think has been missing from the antipodes arsenal of masks and treatments : I LOVE the Aura mask, but always like a good detox/clay mask once a week to really deep cleanse and detox my skin. The Halo mask is perfect for those of us with that more combination / oily / congested / dull and breakout skins. You can also multi-mask this alongside the Aura mask if you have really combination or reverse-combination skin if you fancy being that lil’ bit more fancy.
This mask looks like a typical mud mask ; it’s thick, creamy and cooling and it also has a slightly granular feel to it. It contains mineral-rich mud from New Zealand’s volcanic plateau, kaolin clay, vivanza grape & kiwi, avocado oil & pure plant fragrance of vanilla pod, raspberry seed and musk. Vivanza grape & kiwi is an ingredient that is in MOST of the antipodes skincare range and this has been clinically shown to reduce to help improve skin appearance.
TO USE: You can use this mask at least twice a week & simply slather on a thick layer (avoiding the eye area) and leave on for up to 15 minutes to get to work. Rinse off with a damp, warm flannel.
I have been incorporating this into my weekly routine for a couple of weeks and it’s an instant hit for me as it has multiple skin benefits and particularly effective on my combination / open-pored skin. It deep cleanses with the kaolin clay, it draws out impurities and detoxes with the volcanic mud, it brightens and gently exfoliates (I find, due to the teeny granules you can feel in it as I mentioned earlier) and it doesn’t leave skin dry and squeaky-feeling.
There’s not really any ingredients in that would be a problem for sensitive skins, but if you are usually quite reactive, then perhaps try starting off with leaving this on for maybe 5-10 minutes to see how you go. This mask is organic and certified vegan, the plastic tub is recyclable PETG plastic.
