I’ve made no secret of my hideous acne I had from my teens until my early 20’s. You can read a bit more of that here and also here. Anything acne-related, I am still so interested in so I want to share with you something brand new targeted towards those who have acne and breakouts.
Neutrogena have just launched The Light Therapy Acne Mask which is an at-home, wearable LED device to help treat acne that delivers RED & BLUE wave lengths deep into the skin at the speed of light to disrupt the acne cycle. The blue light kills bacteria and the red light reduces the inflammation.
One thing I never really had access to or a recommendation for was using LED therapy to treat acne, which has become A LOT more common for treating skin conditions over the last 10 years or so. However, this is often time-consuming (going to appointments/specialists) AND quite costly. This Neutrogena device is neither of these and uses the same technology at an energy level that is absolutely safe for personal, at-home use.

CLINICAL RESULTS.
That’s what we like to hear! The Neutrogena Light Therapy Mask has been independently (big plus) clinically tested. Out of 52 subjects with mild-moderate acne, 80% reported less breakouts with just one week of treatment, with results improving over time and 98% of subjects reported less breakouts after 12 weeks. That’s pretty impressive.
With clearer skin, becomes improved confidence and a general feeling of improved well-being. 77% said they had higher self-esteem after using this mask.
HOW TO USE:
I’m gonna put this out there. I was drunk when I first used this. It was a Saturday night after a dinner party at my house and I’d had possibly a whole bottle of red wine. I thought this was obviously be THE BEST time to give it a whirl. I didn’t read the instructions, I don’t think I *could*, but I still managed to get it up and running with zero instructions : It’s pretty self-explanatory. This can be used every day FYI.
1.) Cleanse and dry your skin
2.) Plug the mask’s power cord into the activator.
3.) Put on the mask like a pair of sunglasses
4.) Press the power button and hold down umtil the light powers on.
5.) The treatment lasts 10 minutes and turns off automatically.
MY THOUGHTS.
I know what it feels to have severe, life-altering acne. It sucks. It effects everything and your mental health so improving your skin is paramount to your happiness when you are suffering with acne. Try all the routes you can and will. I had to go severe. I wish I had had other options like this when I was younger.
Right now my skin is clear, with occasional breakouts. I don’t have acne currently therefore I can’t report back and tell you that this has cured my skin/acne blah blah blah.
HOWEVER, what I can tell you is that I have used it simply to see what it does do for my occasional breakout skin, and I can safely say my skin is ridiculously good at the moment. Braggy? I know. It’s quite literally the best my skin has been, perhaps a coincidence I have no idea, but I have been using this Light Therapy mask at least once a week for 3 weeks now so I am placing my bets that this is helping some way or some how.
My husband has never complimented my skin…..EVER. In our 8 years (I know, I will probably trade him in at some point). Last week he *actually* said how good my skin looked…and he’s a typical man…he doesn’t even notice skin or similar so this is a big deal.
It’s easy to use and set up (see the drunk thing from earlier) and it’s not cumbersome to use as it’s really quick. It feels warm when you have the mask on and you can’t really do that much as you are being treated as your vision is restricted by the glasses – I tried to watch TV, it was pretty un-successful. So just relax for 10 minutes and perhaps use it as an excuse to simply sit, relax and do nothing.
