Jo Loves Pomelo review : Let’s go!
Jo Loves is the newer fragrance house of Jo Malone of Jo Malone London. She stepped away from her namesake brand quite some years ago (it’s now owned by Lauder) and Jo Loves launched in 2011 with one London-based store and into some Space NK boutiques. It is described a niche fragrance house and as expected….they do some banging scents!
About Jo Loves.
Jo Loved was founded by Jo Malone CBE in 2011. Jo Malone has been described as an ‘English scent maverick’ and the woman responsible for creating some of the world’s most loved fragrances.
‘Originally a facial therapist, Jo fell in love with fragrance while working from her discreet skin care clinic which she set up from her London home. Discovering an instinctual talent for creating scented products by hand in her kitchen, word of her exceptional potions quickly spread and soon Jo was unable to keep up with demand. From these artisan beginnings Jo launched her first brand, Jo Malone London, which gained cult status around the world. In 1999, Jo sold the business to Estée Lauder Companies and remained Creative Director until she left in 2006.’
Jo Loves has been around since 2011 so is still a relatively ‘new’ fragrance brand but has become quickly established and they do some beautiful scents that have become much talked about and loved. Jo Loves was created all around memories – “it’s where I am and the person I am now”. Jo Malone.
There are currently 15 fragrances in the Jo Loves line-up. Jo Loves do perfumes, candles and bath and body products. The range is vegan and cruelty free.
Jo Loves Pomelo Review.
‘I surround myself with Pomelo wherever I go, it’s the fragrance that causes people to stop me in the street to ask what I’m wearing.’ Jo Malone.
I want want Jo is wearing! The Jo Loves Pomelo fragrance is inspired by memories of summer holidays, white sandy beaches, fresh linen sheets and sparkling iced water. It is a Grapefruit-infused , citrus scent that is both refreshing, and instantly energising.
Fragrance notes of Vetiver, Pomelo, Patchouli, Pomelo zest
This is a really fresh and uplifting scent. I would put it in the same category as something like Acqua Di Parma Colonia : not in terms of how it smells but it’s that zesty, fresh, unisex fragrance that can be worn by anyone and everyone. It’s an easy scent. Most will like this. It’s probably more of summer scent for me because of how fresh and citrusy it is but it is certainly can be worn all year round depending on your preference.
It is vibrant, sophisticated…and easy.
Jo Loves Pomelo is an eau de Parfum and it last VERY well on me. I can smell it lingering on my clothes and people have asked what I am wearing when I have it on. It costs £115 for 100ml and £75 for 50ml. The bottle looks sleek, minimal and chic.
Jo Loves Pomelo A Fragrance Paintbrush.
This is a really unique and interesting concept from Jo Loves, I’ve seen a lot of weird and wonderful fragrance accessories in my time, but not a paintbrush!
The innovative Fragrance Paintbrush features a gel formula that holds the fragrance and dries in second. You can top-up and refresh your fragrance, wherever you are. When you purchase you receive 2x7ml : so one refill – and you can also purchase extra refills separately as and when you need.
Jo Loves Pomelo Candle.
Of course Jo Loves do candles to accompany the scents! That was always going to be a given. The Jo Loves Pomelo candle is a 185g size and costs £55. They do refills for the candles too which I think is GENIUS and I wish more brand did this honestly. The refills cost £45.
They also do a HUGE 2.2 kg luxury candle which is a 4-wick candle and amazing for bigger rooms and the ultimate gift for Jo Malone and Jo Loves fans!
Jo Loves Pomelo Bath & Body.
There are a few products in the Jo Loves Pomelo collection and these include the candle, a refillable body lotion, bath & shower gel, a body cream, hand sanitiser, hand cream, fragrance brushes and various travel collections. I like the fact that most things are refillable / re-useable etc. The paintbrush in particular is a very interesting concept!
Is Jo Loves a Good Brand?!
I know a lot of people will be wondering if it’s a good fragrance brand , if it’s a ‘good’ as Jo Malone London etc. In my honest opinion – absolutely and better! Especially if you are on th lookout for more niche and interesting scents. I personally don’t *love* Jo Malone London fragrances as I find them quite commonly worn now and I prefer my fragrances a little more niche and unusual. I haven’t tried the bath & body range as yet but I am told it’s beautiful!
Is Jo Loves similar to Jo Malone London?
There *are* similarities , of course…it’s the same person behind the brand! However Jo Loves, for me is a little more interesting. There isn’t really a scent form Jo Loves which you would smell and think ‘ooo that is supposed to be XX from Jo Malone London’. I feel like she would of not wanted this to happen. The packaging I think for both brands is chic and sleek looking…Jo Loves I think is more modern and minimal – but that’s because it has been designed in more recently times. Price wise, Jo Loves and Jo Malone London is VERY similar, I think Jo Malone London is maybe £5 or so more expensive for the different sizes.
So there we have all things Jo Loves Pomelo, her signature scent from this wonderful fragrance house. I have smell most of her fragrances now and I also really love the Rose Petal 25, Orange Butterflies and Red Truffle 21. I do think I probably need to invest in a more autumn-winter scent from the brand as like I said, the Jo Loves Pomelo is definitely a spring into summer scent for me.
