I must have been living under a rock these last few years as I did’t know that lash primer had made a comeback. Who knew?! I got sent the Marc Jacobs Velvet Epic Lash Primer recently and have been trying it out (check out my Instagram Reel right here if you want to see it in action!) so I wanted to have a quick chat about all things lash primers : Do lash primers work, do you need one, how much difference do they REALLY make??
Hopefully I can answer all your questions here. I have some before and after pictures, an in-depth review and who may need this Marc Jacobs Velvet Epic Lash Primer.
My first experience with a lash primer was way back in the late 90’s…..I think. It was the double-ended L’Oréal one. I can’t for the LIFE of me remember the name but it was definitely the first of it’s kind that hit the mainstream. I loved it! I can see they still do similar and apparently quite a few brands do a lash primer, I must have just missed them these last 20 years!
So….WHAT actually is this lash primer malarkey and do we actually need to bother?! As it sounds really…It preps and coats the lashes with a layer of white/pale pigment before you apply the *main event* mascara. Lash primer is designed to give your mascara to stick onto, make your lashes appear fuller and thicker and even help your mascara stay on longer.
Is it essential? No. However, if you struggle with finding that *dream* mascara, can’t find the one to work for you and your lashes …..it may be just the add-on you need in your already extensive makeup collection.
Marc Jacobs Velvet Epic Lash Primer : This is described as ”An ultra-plush lash primer with a conditioning base that maximizes the benefits of your favourite mascara for lashes that look longer, fuller and more dramatic.”
This is a creamy, pale peach, conditioning formula that really does coat your lashes well when applied! This pale peach colour makes it easy to grab every lash and ensure they are all coated. Make sure you really do them all and from root-to-tip too for the ultimate thick lash. ALSO : a lot of lash primers are WHITE in colour which actually can effectively turn your beautiful jet-black mascara a little grey and this unique shade prevents this from happening. CLEVER.
This ultra-plush primer gives you the full treatment for lashes that feel luxuriously soft and healthy, not brittle or dry. It also helps prevent your mascara from flaking. For the most irresistible, over-the-top, false-lash look, this is your go-to step before mascara. Also ; it’s such a great formulas that you can actually wear this alone as a PM lash treatment : think if it like a lash mask!
