I have slowly been going through my seemingly vast Diptyque fragrance collection and bring you reviews of some of the best and my most-loved. Today we talk things all Diptyque Tam Dao. One of the most beautiful fragrances, that isn’t quite as well-known as some of the others but one we really need to talk about. It’s gorgeous!
Diptyque do some of my favourite scents ever and I have been using their fragrances (and their candles) for around 15 years now – yep before they were insta-famous! Diptyque was established in 1961 and the French perfume house is world renowned for exceptional fragrance, the most beautiful scented candles and body and skincare that stimulates the senses for a luxurious experience. My dream is to go and visit their boutique in Paris one day.
Diptyque Tam Dao was launched in 2013. The nose behind this fragrance is Daniel Moliere. Tam Dao by Diptyque is a Woody fragrance for women and men. It is the perfect scent for this time of year and one I tend to reach for more over the lighter and more fresher Diptyque fragrances such as Philosykos, Do Son and Eau De Sens.

Diptyque Tam Dao Eau De Toilette Review.

Diptyque Tam Dao Eau de Toilette is a sweetly spice, aromatic wood fragrance. It smells fresh and almost green on first spray that then transcends into a more heady woody scent and finishing up with the smoother, creamy notes of sandalwood and rose. It is aromatic and interesting, it isn’t sweet or too floral.
Key Fragrance Notes in Diptyque Tam Dao :
Top Notes : Italian Cypress, Ambergris
Middle Notes : Sandalwood, Cedar
Base Notes : Amber, Brazilian Rosewood, White Musk
These aromatic notes combined gives it a really interesting and wonderful scent. It’s definitely woody, it’s definitely unisex and it’s almost aromatherapy-like in the way it makes you feel. It is calming, it’s warming and it’s comforting. Honestly, a PERFECT fragrance for all , everyone and any occasion during the autumn/winter through to spring and summer. I personally love it for this time of year (we are in Autumn here in the UK) and I am wearing it a lot. It’s a bit fancier than an everyday ‘sling-it-on’ perfume, just to wear something but it seems to be good for most occasions and I always get compliments on this – from both men and women!
Diptyque Tam Dao Eau De Toilette costs £117 for a 100ml size and £85 for a 50ml size. They also do an Eau de Parfum, a soap and a fragrances bracelet.

Diptyque Perfume Packaging & Bottles.
You are probably family with the unique and instant recognisable Diptyque bottles. Their signature glass oval-shaped bottle are adorned with black and white labels on the front : white for Eau de Toilette, black for the Eau De Parfums.
All the diptyque fragrances have wonderful illustrations and small details that you may not notice upon first glance ; if you turn the bottle around and look through the glass to the back of the label there is a wonderful illustration that is unique to that fragrance (as the image above). This will be a reflection on the inspiration behind the scent.
I aways have loved the unique diptyque packaging, it has become so iconic! It looks very chic, unisex and luxurious. I love the nod to their boutique in Paris on the bottles too – the address written around the outside ’34 Boulevard St Germain Paris’.

How long does Tam Dao last?
It really depends on person-to-person but on me it will last a good half a day that I can still smell it upon myself, but will still be detectable all day. I usually re-apply once in a day and that’s it with Diptyque fragrances. They do some great handbag roll-on perfumes, solid perfumes and smaller sizes for top-ups.
It can be really scary purchasing a fragrance you haven’t actually smelt in real life….I’ve only ever done it once myself BUT if you buy a Diptyque fragrance from the Diptyque website…each fragrance purchase will now include a matching sample. you can then use the sample to test the fragrance on your skin before opening the full-size bottle. Just make sure you don’t rip open the packing on the main bottle as Diptyque will only accept unopened returns within 28 days of original purchase.
