BECCA COSMETICS : Why They Are Closing & my Top 10 BECCA Makeup Products !

I’m still in disbelief. I still am holding out for a decision reversal. I simply CANNOT believe that BECCA Cosmetics are closing this year. It’s such a sad decision from Estee Lauder, and it’s a brand, I, along with SO many makeup artists I know have used and bought for so many years for their cult products, brilliant formulations and easy-to-use fuss-free makeup.

I have A LOT of Becca in my makeup stash, I have worked with the brand in the past so I have pretty good inside knowledge of the brand and products and have used pretty much all of it over the years.

BECCA Cosmetics:

In 2001, BECCA Cosmetics was founded in Perth, Australia with a mission to create effortlessly glowing complexion products for every skin type and color. Inspired by that same ideal of glow and the heritage of Australia’s luminous light, we are focused on light as a point of difference: innovating award winning products that create illumination in all shapes, textures and forms.

Committed to inclusivity, our shades range from the fairest to the deepest skin tones. Dedicated to the well being of all living things, BECCA is and always will be Cruelty-Free and PETA Certified.

Experts in the beauty of light, we are all about ingenuity.  And individualism. And effortlessness. And choice.

Why is BECCA Cosmetics closing?

Hmmmmm too many rumours and a little pinch of Estee Lauder perhaps. It’s all very sad, disastrous, almost and it makes me feel pretty angry that such a HUGE global beauty powerhouse such as ELC cannot save Becca. I mean, they absolutely can, of course they can….as of September 15, 2021 they have a net worth of  $119.52B (yes thats’s BILLION) but it clearly isn’y lucrative enough for them.

BECCA have this statement on their website which I will share with you:

To Our BECCA Beauties,

Here at BECCA, we’re obsessed with our relationship with our fans. You’re all our family – part of this beautiful community that supports us and shares our values. It’s because of our love for each of you that we are sharing this important news here.

The global pandemic has had an impact on everyone around the world on many levels. It has also had a tremendous impact on so many businesses. At BECCA, an accumulation of challenges, together with the global impact of COVID-19, has sadly been more than our business can withstand, and we have had to make the heartbreaking decision to close down the BECCA brand at the end of September 2021.

We believe in you, and we believe that the beauty inside you is the light you share with the world. We are confident that the spirit of BECCA will continue to live on through all of you. Please keep illuminating your true selves. Light your own paths and push your limits. Share positivity and light the way for others as you make an impact on this world. Own your light on your own terms.

For 20 years – from Perth to New York and across the globe – we’ve built incredible connections with this amazing community, from our consumers to the makeup artist community, our wonderful network of influencers, to our amazing Brand Collaborators and Brand Ambassadors from yesterday and today. We’ve done meaningful work together supporting mental wellness with the JED foundation and Mental Health Mates and will continue to do so through our commitment to The Trevor Project this coming June. Together, we put our best light out into the world, and for that we are forever grateful.

Thank you for every last ray of positivity and support.

With much Love & Gratitude,

Make of it what you will, but there isn’t going to be any much-hoped u-turn or bail out for Becca Cosmetics. They are ceasing trading in just 2 weeks (end of September 2021) and it’s really, really fucking sad.

Anyway let’s stop the sentiments and waffling, let’s dive straight into the BEST BECCA PRODUCTS and why you need to snap them up as and when you can. Currently, in the UK, REVOLE HAVE THE BIGGEST STOCK then Boots and Look Fantastic ….there’s some bits straggling on Cult Beauty too.

The Top 10 Becca Products you NEED:

**Update : As I write this post, BECCA have announced their official closing date which is September 20th 2021. Nearly everything seems to have sold out immediately, so this is turning just into a chat about my favourite products… do need them yes, but I don’t think you will be able to get them yikes!**

1.) Highlighters.

What BECCA are renowned for, both liquid and powder formulas! Some of my favourite highlighters in the entire world are from BECCA and I am a huge fan of both of the OPAL and CHAMPAGNE POP. Glorious, poppy highlighters that can be seen from the heavens. No subtle glow here, these are out and out highlighters.

There is a mini travel size of the Opal on Look Fantastic for £8 HERE btw!

2.) Shimmering Skin Perfector.

I don’t think you’ve been able to get this for a while now, but this is a sheer liquid highlighter. It’s softer than their newer ‘Ignite’ liquid highlighter, and it’s a gorgeous skin prep before makeup and a product I often dollop in with my foundation to give it that touch of radiance. Opal was my go-to shade.

3.) Primers!

SO, SO many great BECCA primers to choose from. My favourites? The Ever matte Poreless (great for guys!), the BECCA Backlight gives you radiance and hydration and the infamous BECCA First Light Primer (the purple one!) brightens and freshens the skin at the same time as being a great base for your makeup.

4.) Ultimate Coverage Foundation

Designed to be lightweight without compromising on coverage, BECCA’s foundation delivers 24-hours of lasting power to ensure day-long perfection. It’s formulated using both concentrated pigments (21%) and water (22%), ensuring an optimum balance between colour and flexible comfort. You’ll be treated to a finish that looks and feels completely natural, helping to disguise blemishes including hyperpigmentation, discolouration, redness and acne. A brilliant buildable full coverage!

5.) Under Eye Brightening Corrector.

Sold out everywhere so good luck pals. UPDATE : I HAVE FOUND SOME RIGHT HERE!! GO. This is definitely one of their ‘cult’ makeup products and one until quite recently…no on else did similar. This is NOT a concealer. It’s a light reflection cream that both brightens and corrects dark circles and it’s perfect to pop on under your concealer to really brighten the under eye area. From what I have heard, the best ‘dupe’ is the Beautypie version. I’m sure more will follow.

6.) Aqua Luminous Perfecting Foundation

My favourite and most-used base from BECCA! A dewy AF lightweight light-medium coverage foundation. It had light reflection, glow and gave you enough coverage to hide the sins. I’m so pleased I stocked up on my shade (beige) before this sold out. Smug face.

7.) Light Shifter Dewing Tint

A lovely skincare and makeup hybrid, similar to the CT Hollywood Flawless Filter or the ICONIC LONDON Radiance Booster. This give your complexion a soft, dewy glow with BECCA’s tinted moisturiser, designed to bring out the hidden luminosity of your skin. Drying to a sheer finish, the formula creates an enviable lit-from-within look for a natural, subtly perfected surface. It’s incredibly dewy, giving your face a reflective sheen while maintaining an airy light feel for optimal comfort. The moisturiser’s gel-like consistency glides across your complexion, leaving behind a velvety texture that’s never sticky.

8.) Aqua Luminous Perfecting Concealer

A really good, fuller coverage concealer but not flat or heavy looking. It has a touch of radiance and it can be used all over the face and under the eyes. A perfect companion to the Aqua Luminous foundation to *up* the coverage where you need.

9.) Mineral Blushers

These were some of the softest and most beautiful blusher formulas. They applied so smoothly and easily and had a touch of glow but not too much. Flowerchild was NARS Orgasm’s better sibling.

10.) Beach Tints

Ok these have been discontinued for some time….was this the start of the end?! These were some of their most FAMOUS and most-loved cheek tints and I’m baffled as to why these ever went…who remembers Guava and Fig?! Gorgeous, fresh liquid cheek colours that came in small, kit-friendly tubes. Makeup artists bloody loved these.

So that’s a round-up of my favourite BECCA products and my most-used over my 16 year career as a professional makeup artist. I have so much love for BECCA I’m sure you can tell. My next *thing* is to bring to you a post all about the BECCA dupes and what you can replace your BECCA faves with. Coming soon!

I’ve said it about 4 times already but I’m saying it again. I’m really sad about this. It’s a brand that as a makeup-artist I have used so extensively for SO many years. Absolutely in my top 5 makeup brands of all time and owned by the biggest beauty powerhouse in the entire world. It makes no sense.

IT’S BECCA. It’s a HUGE makeup brand we all know. How has this even happened?! Madness. Anyway. 2 weeks left, if I was a multi-millionaire I’de be in there trying to salvage this incredible cosmetics brand.

Thanks for all the glow, fun, easy makeup + makeup faves BECCA x
