I am SUCH a girlfan of Pestle & Mortar’s Pure Hyaluronic Serum that I was really looking forward to this brand bringing something….anything else out. If you are not familiar with this small, Irish-born brand then they launched last year with just one (amazing) serum, nothing else. I quite liked the fact that they just did this one product, as they did it really well and had devotees like myself waiting to invest in the next product. Well, here it is….the much-anticipated Pestle & Mortar Hydrate Lightweight Moisturiser.
This day & nightime moisturiser contains antioxidants, anti-ageing triple peptides & natural moisturisers ; in short it is anti-ageing, firming & restorative & hydrating. This moisturiser is formulated without parabens, synthetic fragrance, mineral oil or silicones.
Antioxidants : Pomegranate, Green Tea, Vitamin E
Moisturisers: Jojoba Oil , Squalene
Peptides : Tri & Tetrapeptide (stimulates collagen, fights fine lines, strenghtens elasticity)
As the name suggests this is a lightweight moisturiser, great for all skintypes as not only is it a quick-to-absorb texture, but it is still very hydrating and perfect for a deyhdrated skin (particulary in combination with their hyaluronic serum).
I took this away with me initially to try it when I went on a staycation to Wales in January. Lots of walking, fishing and general outdoor activity in the cold/wet/rain made my skin quite dehydrated and red. I was using this in the AM on it’s own and in the PM in combination with my Antipodes Avocado & Rosehip oil for extra nourishment which seemed to work really well. It does feel lightweight, even on my combination skin, yet I can still feel my skin really replenished, soothed and hydrated after I have applied it. I think if you are super dry (the skintype, not the clothing brand), then you would need to use a serum underneath for extra hydration. There is no added fragrance so it just smells fresh and of nothing-ness ; no strong hints of anything which I know some people prefer.
One of the key things for me is that it doesn’t clog my pores as it contains NO SILICONE. Some/ A lot of creams now seem to contain silicone, even in small amounts, which do make the skin look great on initial application but after a few weeks of daily application it can bring me out in congested skin & blackheads.
The packaging is really good, I like these handy pump-top jars as it keeps the product active and fresh, and it’s also a really hygenic way to apply face cream. No mess and fuss! Although the pot looks quite big, it is very lightweight (I was travelling with it) and contains a generous 50ml of product. I love the simplicity and *clean-ness* of the Pestle & Mortar packaging, I think it reflects the no-fuss-faff & goodness of the products.
I am still a devotee after trying this face cream and I think it’s perfect for me ; I think if you are 50+ and have been using La Prairie all your life then in terms of anti-ageing, this will likely be a step-down, but for someone 20-40yrs who want something active, not thick in texture, non-pore-clogging, lightly anti-ageing and not a bank-breaker, then this is one to put on the wish list.
The Pestle & Mortar Hydrate lightweight moistursier is available online & at Liberty’s London costing £38. I am for one, really looking forward to whatever their next release me be…..I’m hoping an oil or a cleanser!
