NARS lip pencils are infamous and I have used the Velvet matte range in my kit and on myself (Red Square: One Love, Dragon girl: one love) for many years. They are ultra long-wearing, bold colours and come in a chubby pencil form so easy to apply, no mess.
Last summer (I think) they launched a Velvet gloss formula which were lower pigment higher shine and hydration.
Now comes the Satin lip pencil. This has just launched across the UK in 13 bold shades. This is the newest formula to add to the NARS familia, and it’s bringing a highly pigmented but a more creamier version of my old favourites. This will sit somewhere in between the matte (high pigment, ultra matte) and the gloss pencils (lower pigment, super sheen). A very good and useful happy medium if you ask me.
I was sent a couple of the new satin lip pencils to try in shades ‘Hyde Park’ (berry red) and ‘Het Loo’ (nude brown). Colour swatches of these can be seen above. They are not like a typical lipstick formula, they are not waxy, but somehow make the lips feel very nourished and not as dry as they can with the velvet matte formulas. They also have a very good wear. They have a slight sheen after application and I had mine safely still on after 4 hours of wear. I really love the berry ‘Hyde Park’ shade and this is something that I would wear day-to-day, but the other shade is a little borwn for my skin tone, so this is going into my professional kit. Below is me wearing the ‘Hyde Park’ with a simple flick eyeliner and bold brow….my favourite way to wear a deep red tone.
The satin lip pencils are available nationwide from NARS counters, Space NK and online at www.narscosmetics.co.uk priced at £18.50. I seriously suggest you check out the velvet matte lip pencils too. My favourite shades are Red Square, Dragon Girl and Pop Life.
